Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Does taking a new role restart the clock?

I noticed Centene has been posting a large amount of jobs within the past couple of weeks. I’m someone who didn’t take the VSP and doesn’t look like lay-offs are happening in my department. If I apply and get accepted into one of the new jobs will I still keep the years of service I have been here 6+ or will they reset it to whenever the start date of the new role is? I want to make sure I’m covered in case they end up laying off the new roles in 2027/2028.

If you are bringing value you don’t have anything to worry about

Im transitioning into an internal role in the next couple weeks and so figured if that happened maybe I'd be "safe", but came to the reality as quickly as things change, no role is safe these days. Good luck to you if you apply to a different role. Good luck to everyone not taking VSP and to those that did- best wishes in your next career move. ❤️

@a5 You might want to stop and read what you’re replying to before you step on your soapbox and ranting and projecting. Half the things you said are in response to things I never said. He-l I’m far from high paid and not looking to sue. GOODBYE!

Agree - working at an MCO is a going to be government AI eventually. No need for 'specialized' people when it's about DATA. Machines can do all of that - that is the future. The young workers should know this and be prepared, it's their world. The older workers already had their 'ride' - it's not the same world. As younger workers, we need to move on to what is going to be ripe for our years of working - insurance companies is not where it was back in the 90s.

Yes, they can replace your high salary with a lower paid employee! This is America, remember - there's no promises of anything. And if you are an employee who feels they are irreplaceable, think again. It's that mentality that will get you laid off anyway. Today's work environment is for those who are not 'loyal' to a company. They don't care how much you know, we are all replaceable. None of us are special, although you think you are because your PL has relied on you for years and you think you have some special talent. We work with data, federal plans and individual member enrollments - all can be taken on by a younger, less educated, less experience person. We have been lucky to ride the wave as long as we have. It's just life. Move on and stop working at any MCO - the plan for the government plans is to replace with AI at some point, so why care about going back to another healthcare company! That would be setting yourself up for a layoff again, again and again as time goes on. Move on - stop this crazy worrying. It's useless and you can't just argue to make it where you get to stay and avoid a layoff just because you feel something is 'unjust' in your world. Stop these stupid comments and threads about redundant issues and questions. You have no lawsuit, you have complaint, you signed up for a changing industry! Accept it and move on! Unless you have some meaningful information and not 'complaining' then get off these threads. We have to be smarter about our future, and Centene has no future. Do you not see the writing on the wall?

@a2 thanks for the confirmation. I started as FTE so my full 6 should be accounted for. I just wanted to make sure Centene couldn’t pull a fast one if I got laid off.

yes, I have had four roles here and my years of service has accrued. in workday, you'll see a difference for time in role vs. time in the company. the time with the company is based on your original hire date. if by chance, you started as a contractor, that time before you became a w-2 employee would not count.
