Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Where are we going to find another 25000 employees to surplus?

I asked my leadership why are we letting go the employees that do the job we need more of and hiring new no nothing overseas pests instead ?
The response was “we are going to surplus another 25000.of them”

My thoughts to this won’t pass the webmaster rules here.
Where will they find another 25000 core needed employee to surplus?

It’s going to be like peanut butter. 20% across every org. Done.

Don't be surprised when you find out that 25000 is actually 35000

Bottom line - if it takes two or more departments to hand off a customer once they agree to a service, they need to eliminate at least one of those.

all they have to do is offer a nice buyout to all of us old timers and I GUARANTEE that more than 25,000 will sign up for it.

Cutting doesn't mean not replacing. If they cut too many, they hire contractors or offshore work. The goal is to reduce employees on Ts payroll. Look at all of the offshoring, contractors and solutions providers (sales) that still work here after the past surpluses.

I disagree that “they will find the L1 & L2 skaters in Atlanta. They L3s are so far removed,
they just make their “cut number”
and have no idea what their team is doing.
The company is a disaster — paying L2 base salaries in Atlanta $130,000!!!! for 1 hour work a day —- no exec knows this — especially Walters…he’s out there posting how great things are… if he only knew what really goes on … or should we say what doesn’t happen because there’s not much to work - it’s been outsourced and we “made the cut”. The company will
be doomed until
people
have integrity and apply good work ethics all
the way to the top and that will never happen under the Stank

“We’ve lost 10 people on my team in the past year, and the work keeps getting done.”

Very accurate statement. Shedding 25K employees is an easy task. T is bloated.

They will simply offshore all of the work. Much cheaper.

Has anyone ever heard JS say the number or are we all assuming that he wants to be the same size as or less than VZ? I’m not sure he even knows the plan since every plan or notion he’s ever cooked up has failed. Do I think there is a desired number in mind? Yes. Do I think it is as low as some speculate? No. Could it be with AI? Yes. But wait until we force AI just to say we did and it creates a whole new set of problems. It’s already happening. It will be make AI do something so we can report up that we are implementing it. Same playbook as robotics process automation (remember the day when every process needed a BOT?). So this manic cycle of cut, build back, cut again will continue sadly. Soon, we’ll see another plethora of org changes and promises of what those changes will bring when they are nothing more than shuffling officers at the top around yet again with the promise of transformational change (blah blah) which will amount to little or nothing other than more organizational chaos and eventual cuts. We don’t learn. Maybe it’s not a quantity issue it’s a quality issue and the quality issue is at the top!

@a1 When in reality if the DID start cutting some of the folks L3 and higher, they'd save the money they are trying to recoup SIGNIFICANTLY faster than cutting the folks on the front lines, and the ones that remain turning into work horses who's mental health is so shot from the constant stress that they don't know whether they are coming or going half the damn time.

You know they WILL find them and they won’t be the CEO, the C suite or anyone in upper leadership.
