Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Need suggestion regarding Dell ISG WFR.

Hi, with the recent WFR going on in Dell will it be okay if I ask my manager straight forward to add my name as well in the list? Not sure about will they agree or will it backfire me. I am fed up of everything going on currently and it is impacting my mental health & peace very much. I heard there is WFR going on in overall ISG this week so I was thinking to discuss my concern with manager. Anyone please help.

@b8 managers created the ranked list but they do not choose the order that employees are selected from it. I saw folks from the upper third and the middle get selected before the ones at the bottom.

@a6 is correct in my view from within ISG
Lists were submitted up the chain in April/May. Since then they've not gathered any real new input; HR and/or leadership has been calling the shots based on their own criteria. Mostly remote and now seemingly QA.

I am personally aware of a 5-10 volunteers who were included, and the leader was genuinely thankful to have them simplify the decision....but it 100% depends on the leader. If you're too late to catch the train out, then you get left in a disadvantaged position because your leader then knows that rewarding you in the future won't give them any ROI.

@b0 completely agree with you. I have a few workmates who did the same and the manager considered their request. It is completely how your relationship is with your manager to make this request.

Bring it up in your 1-2-1 and say if volunteery redundancy was offered you would take it. Plant that seed in his or her head .

@b8 facts. Do yourselves a favor and quiet quit now while you can and find a job somewhere else. Dell is not worth it. Move on

@bf

How old were you when you were cut?

I asked and was cut thinking I was one of the older folk in the org but in the WFR list I saw the ages of my peers and woe I am a kid.

@ba RTO was real. Ignore the COVID pitch that Dell would never return. That changed when empty buildings wouldn't work for continued tax breaks. So yes US Remote will get hit sooner than later.

The fact that we have to discuss this on a regular basis drains ones energy.

I've seen management tell someone a certain reality and a month later, it isn't anything like what was said. This causes a breakdown in trust. You like to know that someone has your back but these days, it is not that way.

Try and look up different companies like Microsoft, ServiceNow etc. You don't see nearly as many postings as you see here with Dell. Just by volume, something isn't right but they don't care.

@a6 why do you think US remote workers are on the list? I am one, so this is concerning.

@b8 going to your manager is a bad idea unless you are friends and then even still it's every man for himself. Best to just ride it out.

@b6 Don't listen to the last guy's advise. Bad advice. It absolutely has everything to do with your manager. The "how many" part is above your manager, yes, but the "who" part (the stack ranked list...) IS YOUR MANAGER.

You mentioned you're in ISG. That means your manager is likely a d-mb asss hole with no idea what he/she is doing. Most of them in ISG are. They'll do anything they can to stab you in the back. That means if you want to go, they'll keep you but make your life a living he-l until the next round. If you want to stay, and you're not an asss kisser, you'll be on the bottom of the stack rank list.

That's how ISG management rolls. It all depends on where you feel you are on that stack rank list. And that depends on how much asss you kiss.

I think a lot depends on your age and how expensive you are.

The decision for you being laid off lies at the top. It has zero to do with your manager. You can pass it on to your manager but it depends on your relationship. Know that, if you do raise your hand, for the duration of your stay with Dell, you will have zero raises AND they know you want to leave so they may make it more difficult for you so that you will voluntarily leave.

My management accommodated my request and I made the list for the next cut after I made the request. A lot depends on the relationship you have with your Management chain and what kind of people they are.

The WFR list was created a couple months back. The list needs to be approved and sent to HR. So you might be too late for this round. Then again, if you are US based and remote, you might be on the list already. If not, you could volunteer for the next round. Yes it could backfire, all depending on how much of an id--t your upper management is. Mine sent attack dogs to come after me ...
