My colleague is in TX. His peers are in WA, IL, NJ. There's no one to collaborate on his business projects within the same location.

There is no one in my location that I work with. There is no one sitting within eight rows of cubicles near me. I go weeks in the office without even saying good morning to another human being. But darn it. I’m in the office.

@a2 if by collaborating you mean just shooting the breeze then sure. There is no one in my building I need to work with or meet with for a business purpose. The team I’m on is scattered all across the globe. Nobody is co-located. It makes no sense to telecommute from an office and that is the problem most of us have.

@a2 what an asinine post. If my coworkers as everyone I work with is not local why would I interact with strangers in the office? This is the reality for tons of people.

Spot on OP. Some of us worked remotely for a decade or more prior to COVID. On national teams there is absolutely no need to commute to sit on Teams meetings all day because no one you work with is local (even in HQ).

OP, were you hired on as full-time remote? Or did you just stop going to the office at some point? I believe a lot of people just said F it, and worked remote...for years.

It’s obvious that the RTO complainers are not qualified to work anywhere else or they would have left already. The only thing they have is the ability to complain on an anonymous board on how stupid RTO is. Maybe they will be lucky and get laid off by year end. Then they can actually work from home applying for unemployment and food stamps.

LMAO ... For over a year I literally drove 23 miles to the office, badged in to the main door, badged into secure sever room, badged into another slightly more secure sever room. Plugged my laptop into a DMZ segment of a firewall so I could VPN into an internet only connected lab to do my work. There was no one else in the room and I had wear earplugs to keep from going deaf. Was so happy to take the package and flee.

@a2 how and where we work is location agnostic. 99% of duties are performed from a laptop. This makes office space entirely obsolete. Sorry, boomer.

Why aren't you interacting with local coworkers in your assigned building? This is the whole point of RTO! If you aren't collaborating in your assigned physical location, you are wrong. This doesn't match the spirit of how or where we now work.
