Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

@2g1 Yeah, I knew it was a shot in the dark. I’m just waiting for my start date with my other job. Regardless, I will get away to a 100% better situation. It’s true, there is A LOT better life outside of Dell.

I work in RR in SB. I really want Dell to put me on the WFR list and let me go today, if possible. Is that realistic to happen right now or would I have to wait?

Many in Ireland this week received their marching orders and the package is extremely good given the current environment. With decent tenure in a senior role you are easily looking at six figures.

What is the current WFR package for Ireland/UK? I'm hearing a mix of things. 2 weeks per year up to 26 weeks plus statutory plus holiday plus bonus pro rata plus payment for shorter notice?

Depends on how much you trust your Director/sr Director... i was 26 years and change in... had a good relationship with both of them but was sick of the constant doom and gloom in Limerick, everyone else had moved on or had been tapped and was sick of being on my own all day long. I put it to them and the rest is history... been nearly 2 years now.

Dont do it. Just quiet quit and wait.

No reason to show your cards. They are NOT your friends.

@OP Be careful. Remember, managers need a certain number of people in their groups to justify their own useless positions. Otherwise they get converted down to IC.

Some of these asssholes will keep you solely to keep their own positions. But, in the process, they will make your life a living he-l after you hurt their delicate, sensitive feelings by asking to be put on a WFR list.

Don't trust a Dell Director, VP, SVP any further than you can throw them.

There is always a list. If not this quarter, next quarter. The list has a minimum of two names.

This is how it works:

1) If you get along with your manager, and trust him/her, say you're done and ask to be put on the "list".
2) If you're not sure, shut up and wait for it.

With that siad, I've seen people in the first situation waiting for 6 months+ to get out.

But really, it comes down to whether your manager is an a--hole or not. There might be some that think that somehow they will be rewarded for "saving money" although of course the only end result is that they will get fired as well :D

@a9 well for what it’s worth a 20+ year long Dell employee requested to be put on the WFR list last and was told by their manager “there is no list…”

Informally, ask your manager.

Yes it can be done informally. Management would prefer to do it to somebody who wants to go as that person might leave anyways. It could save them a body and save them making a decision they don't really want to make.

I asked last year and got my wish in the UK. I was 60 and 11 years in.

You can certainly ask. I know of two people who asked to be WFRd. One was 18-20 years in Dell and the other was maybe 10.

To my knowledge there is a rolling list always everywhere, you can certainly ask your direct manager to be put on the list.
