@ha that's not how that works. Rather than playing games, I simply say no. And ask them to kindly IM the question instead. I may be annoyed but I'm not going to be a je-k to another person that way. It doesn't help anyone, and it reflects poorly on you...not them.

@hy in my experience this is exactly how work doesn't get done. What a sh---y way to treat people also.

@hy that is some heavy stereotyping. I have been running teams of American and Indians for a decade and yet to see something that black and white.

@dy You don't want to fully ignore them. I worked at another organization that did this, and the strategy I used was to ignore them until the last possible second.

And then, give them very vague answers or suggestions and let them go and spin their wheels and either produce nothing or produce something that is wrong.

Essentially, you just breadcrumb them along, but never give them the full scope (not that they could handle it all in the first place even if you did).

One trick I wanted to try but never got the opportunity was to give them subtle, non-obvious wrong information so that they sc--w up and you can call them out. (aside: I'm now working at a job on teams of only domestic workers--oh my god I appreciate it so much now!!!!!!! If you can find a job like this, hold onto it for dear life! Working with only native English speakers is such a dream for productivity and getting things done!)

@OP were you promoted to a PG 17? There always seems to be a target on a 17's back from what I've gathered around here.

@dy yes ignore them. They are replacing you anyways. Make your boss deal with it

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I don't mind not getting promoted. I would rather take the longer term paycheck even if it's less than be more expense to get let go. This site has specifically noted that sound rounds focused on certain grades, which is something I don't have to worry about I guess.

Before I was a Banker, I worked the midnight shift for an e-commerce company. Super Bowl night? I was the guy who pushed the button to ship the winning teams' merch to the NFL site, while the losers gear got routed to Africa. We had offshore teams that would work on issues, and yes, I had to listen to sometimes hours long bridge calls. My strategy was always to ask for a summary of next steps rather than try to focus on the call all night, because fact is with the accents I'd have gotten 90+% of the info wrong anyway.

@dk you act like we have a choice. What are we supposed to do? Ignore them? This is only going to get worse the move jobs get moved into the GCCs

@dg my favorite is when they ask if they can call you via Teams, then under 1 second they call anyway.

@a9 not to mention the whole, you're on a call and come away with a path forward and then as soon as you're off the call the "quick connect?" message comes through. I cannot with those anymore. What could you possibly have to ask that you couldn't have asked 10 seconds ago? It's infuriating and it's usually something that could have been asked in one sentence in a teams message.

And the meeting scheduling nightmare that is working with India offshore. Everything has to be done in the mornings to fit within their working hours and because so many teams have offshore there is no time in the mornings to be found anywhere. It's the worst. But yes, so efficient. Such savings. Ugh.

@a9 the way I cackled at this because it's just so fu--ing true. Like no. No I do not want to connect. I have one hour where I don't have to be on a call or talk to anyone. Ask your question in an IM like a normal person.

You became more expensive thus expendable in an environment where reducing staff and costs are paramount for our stock price. The game is sh---y but that’s how it goes. Hopefully you land on your feet soon.

This bank isn’t different than any other corporation…same sh-t is happening everywhere else and in larger scale in some cases.

Seriously wishing you the best though.

They did the math and realized they could replace you with 10 Indians who will type: "gm" to their teammates every morning and ask: "can we connect?" so that that 1 domestic worker on your team has to teach them English comprehension. Times ten.

You cost more money than they want to pay and/or you’re not someone’s favorite. It su-ks, but that’s how that company works.

I think there are certain salary grades that are not safe here. Save up then get out while you can.
