Compliance team culture?

What’s life like these days within the compliance organization?

My plan Compliance Officer is one of the most negative and cruel people I’ve ever worked with. She said, in writing to a senior manager and high level individual contributor that she doesn’t answer questions from employees “below” her level. When my team was asked if a request was compliant and we were asked to confirm with our compliance officer we were told we were below and would need to escalate to at least the VP level. Funny enough when speaking with the VP they said “she’s an a-s”. Ha!

I have been saying this for years: the entire Compliance department has become increasingly nepotistic, with management and leadership often deciding based on who they like rather than who is truly qualified, prepared, and meets the job requirements.

Some units have little to no documented policies or procedures, yet they police other departments and demand that everyone else have their processes in order. The constant leadership changes and turnover have left little interest in ever pursuing a position there.
Too many decisions are based on “how things should be” or “how we’ve always done it,” without documented processes to support them.

Compliance is losing great people because of leadership and poor decisions, while employees are told it is simply “restructuring.”

Maybe it’s time to fix the department, establish clear and consistent processes, and address those issues before judging other departments and their employees.

Many Compliance employees fear consequences, not because they aren’t doing their jobs, but because of the inconsistencies, favoritism, and poor judgment they see within leadership.

@ad Sadly I heard the goldfish didn’t even make it. The PL kept rescheduling 1x1 feeding times and the goldfish eventually went belly up.

@bd yeah, she has to fire and lay people off to make room for her clueless friends from her old job.

Corporate Compliance or whatever they are calling themselves lately is a toxic, miserable job unless you are in the club and if you’re not, you will be fired or laid off. The Compliance SVP has busted up and ruined so many teams and ran off a lot of good people since she came to Centene.

It looks pretty bad from the outside too. Compliance is supposed to be our “partner”
and I literally dread every interaction with the leadership team. If they’re not combative, they’re unresponsive.

Honestly, it’s shameful and I don’t understand why or high its been tolerated.
