3Q - How is it going so far

We are a month and a half into 3Q, IBMers how do you see the third quarter unfolding? Good or bad?

@gr "I will not get the commission because I was moved to other customers already! ".
It is outrageously unfair. Another trick by the slimy Indian at the top and his cabal of useless thieves to steal from the little people to increase Alvind's fat $$$$ bonuses.

@gv exactly it is playing games. Can it be classified as stock manipulation? If so it should absolutely be investigated. At best our leaders are mo--ns and didn’t know what they were doing was illegal. Which just adds to point that they should have never been leaders in the first place.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t RT responsible for all these sales and tech sales reorg over the past 5 years? The board does not challenge what he is doing?

@e0 - Is it really a "make" if you revise the revenue target down at the beginning of the quarter? That's just called lowering the bar. Also, 4% growth isn't really growth when the inflation rate is also around 4%. Especially pathetic when the economy overall is actually growing around 2%. IBM is falling behind quickly.

I am in Tech Sales, so essentially these days a CSE... It is a nightmare; we just got re-orged again after the 2Q disaster. I have brand new customers, and I am not selling much of anything. I am not alone in this situation, 3Q is going to be bad.

My deals that did not closed late 2Q, did close early 3Q, but it looks like I will not get the commission because I was moved to other customers already! Fu-k IBM!

In reading the tea leaves that AK has put out, 3rd q is most likely a make. Why do I say that? AK went out on a limb and revised IBM revenue to 4-5% growth. He would not have said that if he wasn’t certain he had a make in hand. I suspect a lot of the deals expected in 2nd have closed thus goosing 3rd q revenue. NOTE IBM is also using all of the old plays to goose the 1 billion in free cash flow (no travel, hiring freeze, PIPing folks, and I expect a Sept RA). Those savings drop to the bottom line thus goosing free cash flow. The last thing to keep in mind is the sales re-org. You don’t reorg in the middle of a year unless you can see a way to keep wall street happy. I suspect the 2nd q bleed over gave AK that flexibility. It also gave AK a way to reorg sales management (possibly layoff) for lack of execution. The net of it all is AK has a way to get to 4% + revenue growth

There is nothing good about IBM anymore. Nothing. They moved the goalposts mid year and then told sellers, tech sellers, CSEs etc that they can only travel now with special permission from the kindergarten principal after spending 7 months telling us that getting in front of the customer was the most important thing ever. The IBM executive team clearly has no f'ing idea what they're doing.

If you want to be safe at IBM, work on your PowerPoint skills and voluntarily lick your boss's a nus at every opportunity. Sc--w the hard skills.

@cn quit you whining you are probably safe or exempt from the coming RA because you are in research

Arvind picked 2029 as the date for his QC roadmap because it's close enough to interest investors and bump the stock price yet far enough away that he knows he'll retire before then and it won't be his problem when nothing happens by that date.

@cn While alvind, the slimy Indian was spewing his nonsense about QC, I was reading an interview of one of the Nobel price winners for 2026. The physicist was asserting, there is no known solution yet for QC that can make it usable by the industry.
Now, who do you think, I should believe, the Nobel price winner in physics or Alvind, the slimy Indian ?

@ae it’s not a great time in research either. I see you have bought into the hype. And that’s the problem. A lot of what you hear coming out of my area is overhyped buzz built around some mildly positive data or results. What concerns us lately is that we’re making increasingly big and bold proclamations and promises. If we ultimately can’t deliver on them, it won’t be the people making those statements who take the hit—it’ll be the people in the trenches who are left trying to make those promises a reality who suffer the consequences. Now lots of pressure to deliver on said over promises.

@ae - What is there to monetize? Useful error corrected quantum computers do not yet exist. IBM doesn't have one, Google doesn't have one, Microsoft doesn't have one, none of the QC startups have one. They are very cool science experiments, they are not commercial products and probably won't be for another couple decades.

IBM’s best shot is to monetize quantum computing, which they are not doing. IBM research Is still great. IBM development is non existent. I fear a similar story they had with AI. Conquering natural language in 2010 and waiting until someone else packages and monetizes it.

Q2 was bad for Z box, but Q3 and Q4 will be worse and 2027 will be a disaster. As goes Z box, so goes IBM, it's the only thing they have.

There is no miracle, the slide down continues, Not being pessimistic, I see Q3 slightly worse than Q2. Alvind will spin it as a success.
