Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

The bottom of the barrel

We're hiring people who lack basic skills. There are plenty of smart young candidates out there, so why are we scraping the bottom?

@bd love it! You get what you pay for. Add AI in the mix and I smell failure brewing.

Surely, it'd be both cheaper and more effective to just retrain people that already are part of the company, but instead they spend insane amounts of money on letting people go at the same time as new hires are coming in. I think the more valid question would be why are they hiring anyone at all as long as never ending layoffs keep going.

I’m STUNNED by the feedback I’m hearing from managers and peers having to work with these new hires. Like…. WOW. The lack of EQ and basic critical thinking skills is pretty shocking.

If you pay peanuts, you only attract monkees.

@OP - wonder if these bottom of barrel hires are wasting time on a layoff site boring everyone to death on a non layoff topic.

@OP Because smart people, at any age, are a threat to management. That tells you how bad our management is at Dell.

In my org they don't want to pay experienced people. Recently they hired a person lacking basic computer skills. Cheap, but will hardly ever contribute to the bottom line of the company.

They rather let senior people go who ask for a raise and keep people like this cause on paper they are cheaper.

Incompetence is a top-down problem too. Between nepotism and low salaries, why would top talent waste their time applying?
