Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Are rumours blowing up too much?

Last year, the 10-K seemed to foreshadow a significant round of layoffs, given Oracle’s roughly $2B restructuring budget.

The FY27 10-K, by comparison, indicates about $300M in restructuring costs, and at least some of that appears to be tied to completing restructuring actions initiated in the previous fiscal year.

Am I missing something, or is this year’s restructuring budget much more in line with Oracle’s typical fiscal-year spending rather than suggesting another unusually large RIF?

@bz Officially 'remote' in the system, not 'flex' who does not show up to work. Some state/regional rules may have saved people like you. I got a 10-day notice.

@ap I think they can be if you “report” to the affected site. I’ve been included in 2 and was 100 percent remote.

You guys know that "remote" employees are excluded from WARN, don't you? They do not show up in any counts. Max 10 days of benefits for courtesy.

OpenAI says this:

Some context on the current Oracle layoff rumors, based only on publicly available information: The situation right now looks more like summer 2025 than the April 2026 RIF.

April 2026: The signals were unusually strong. Oracle had disclosed a restructuring plan of up to ~$2.1B, reports were already circulating about thousands of cuts, and WARN notices filed around April 1 ultimately identified roughly 1,668 affected employees in CA/WA for June 1.

Summer 2025: The pattern was more gradual. Rumors/restructuring activity came first, followed by WARN filings in August and September for separations roughly 60 days later in October/November.

August 2026: There is renewed employee chatter about possible cuts, but so far there does NOT appear to be a new public WARN filing confirming a large upcoming Oracle RIF.

There’s also an important difference in the financials: Oracle’s latest restructuring disclosure is around $300M, versus the roughly $2.1B program associated with the previous major restructuring cycle, and some of that $300M relates to previously initiated actions.

So the evidence currently looks like:
🔴 April 2026: Major RIF — strong evidence and WARN filings
🟠 Summer 2025: Early signals → WARNs → layoffs
🟡 August 2026: Rumors/early signals → no new WARN confirmation yet

The next couple of weeks should be informative. If significant WARN notices appear in mid-to-late August with October effective dates, that would start looking remarkably similar to the 2025 pattern.

Until then, claims that another April-sized RIF is definitely coming are speculation, not confirmed fact. And remember: absence of a WARN doesn’t mean no layoffs. Smaller reductions, certain remote-worker situations and non-U.S. reductions may not produce the same public WARN trail.

The 10K is a historical document. It is the summary document for the past fiscal year that is submitted to the SEC. It isn't a roadmap for the future. Oracle can add to their reorg budget at any time that they want as long as it get documented in their financial reports for the quarterly and annual (10K) reports.

I wouldn't under estimate a potential reduction in severance. The $300M you reference could have the same results as $1B did in the past. They are only legally required to pay for the 9 weeks/60 days required by WARN and your health benefits could just end at the end of the month with no COBRA extension.
