Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Mass layoffs are long overdue

I know people don't want to hear that but it's true. Hear it out.

BAIN is running the company now. That's why there is such a stark deviation from the way Dell has always operated in the past. Bain & Company is one of the top global Management Business Consulting firms - emphasis on the term "Business Management" since Dell has exercised very little of that discipline up until now.

Rest assured BAIN is going over the portfolio with a fine-toothed comb. They are looking at delayed and failed projects. They are looking at the number of employees per project. They are looking at burn rates. They are looking at abysmal productivity ratios. They are looking at fixed, variable, and sunk costs associated with underwater ROI for numerous projects that have failed year in and year out.

The truth is Dell operated with little to zero accountability in the past. Now there is accountability and people are surprised?? It should be the other way around. We should all be surprised it took MD this long to clean up the fat, the bloat, the waste, the inneficiencies, the lack of execution, the lack of accountability. And whether you want to believe it or not, he's cleaning it up to get the company ready for sale before he retires.

Granted, Wall Street loves these types of moves because layoffs in particular artificially prop up EPS on the income statement. Investors love that. However, when there's no one else to lay off, and productivity is still floating around 3%, Dell is dead in the water. That's a fact! That's why MD is trying to sell pieces/parts before it caves in on itself. Dell has run its course.

BAIN Is calling the shots now people. Get used to it. The more layoffs we have, the more you can assume long overdue waste and bloat are being discovered in the numbers.

@1xe

You've just answered your own question with "Less paid". That's all it's about. Cost. Imagine all the bad experiences we have with, for instance, support. Customers complain about it but it never gets fixed. It just keeps going and going.

Then why are they firing the most skillfull and experienced staff and keeping low level, less paid, inexperienced ppl? There is no logic in that. Thats why projects fail, cause they hope to run business on interns and graduates backs, once these guys get through tough time they leave because of the low pay and a lot of stress and all b..sh.. that comes with it.

@ax Amen!

Dell is a company with so much potential that has been completely squandered away by backstabbing and nepotism. I've seen so many great people that never get promoted because they don't participate in the bootlicking, while incompetent id--ts have risen to positions that they are simply not qualified for just because they are buddies with leaders a step or two above.

Just Now? Did you just ignore how they were running the company for many years ? This is nothing new.

Bain have ruled this company for 10-15 years.

@cw nor how AI actually works, they’re so arrogant and ignorant that they don’t look at historical wins / losses and they don’t get along. Arthur is useless and Jeff C is fascinated with dashboards that already exist but he’s too d-mb to know that. We’ve lost all technical leadership and only have politicians and financiers at this point.

It’s a terribly frustrating place to work and with this current ISG leadership they will fail, Arthur will never take responsibility and they will continue to go through SVPs and VPS like wh--es go through tricks.

The leadership in ISG is so bad that I really don’t understand how the group still makes money. It’s shocking that a competent competitor hasn’t put Dell out of business in the enterprise space. They couldn’t get a competent product out the door if their lives depended on it. They have no clue what customers really want.

I agree we've been mismanaged into oblivion, that's obvious. But what good will all this surface cleaning do if they keep most of the rats who infected Dell in the first place?

We still have a lot of incompetent leaders who have no idea what they're doing, especially in ISG.

No new buyer wants the failed leadership in any acquisition. They want a disinfected, sterilized company from top to bottom.

@aa Agree 10000%. You couldn't be more spot on with usage of the word "rot."

With all the money and resources Dell has had at its disposal over the years, think of where Dell "could" have been and "should" have been in relation to our competitors. That rot has decayed the company from inside out.

Bain, I get it, every company has an element of bloat. The rot in this company is at the top. I’m not an bitter employee just voicing what is blatantly obvious
