Why does management think it is a good idea to run people off and then hire them back for even more money as hat contractors. Very generous of them!

It is allowed. Even the PIP paperwork says that there is no restriction on returning to work for a contractor performing services for EM.
I retired and they brought me back 2 weeks later via a field mechanical contractor. Basically doing the same job. Now I get paid hourly (more money), and I get OT after 40 hours.
All good.
@ax they’re the contractors we hire to design and print the project hats you sometimes see people wearing, especially at the sites.
Very lucrative roles, but not given to employees.

What is a hat contractor?
As people say to me. If you’re trying make logic out of this place you will go mad.
It can be done- just need to be smart about it and ensure you have got an inside client at ExxonMobil (a former coworker more than happy to have you do some of his/her work for you)
to do the paperwork. All you need to do is write a bogus scope of work document describing the services, a rate (don’t be greedy - start off with 80 USD/hr - no one will think twice about it, Have your ExxonMobil contact set you up as a Supplier in SAP (goto Emconnect and search for ‘Create/Reactivate Vendor’ ) - it will be approved by a 80 IQ Procurement Manager and then you are good to go. Subsequently your ExxonMobil contact just needs to find someone to make the requisition in SAP, attach your quotation, ensure it stays under 100 KUSD, and that of course it gets approved (your ExxonMobil contact only needs DOAG-10, which is really just one level up versus the janitor), Then start to deliver and invoice … if you are half of the talent needed, ExxonMobil will be hooked. It will be a Win for Life.
