Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I'm so uncomfortable here

I changed roles thinking it would help, but it didn't. Nobody leads, nobody mentors, nobody even seems interested in talking to me. My manager has never asked if I need anything or how I'm doing. That's not leadership. That's just someone occupying a title. I'm not staying where I'm invisible.

@OP EM is probably not for you, start looking elsewhere.

EM is not your Mom, go somewhere that gives a sh-t

The structural cost reductions have resulted in people having to ruthlessly prioritize, as most people are overworked so much they have to triage.

Mentoring others does not contribute to ranking, while helping others contributes to their ranking.

These two forces produce the observed outcome. The mentors of the future will not be as talented.

Unsustainable on 10-20 year timeframe.

“Ohh I’m so uncomfortable here, look at me, Gen Z or Gen Alpha kid :(((“… OP you need to adult up, grow some hair on your ballz and in case you are a woman, just get the courage and persevere through this. Don’t let them eat you alive, show them that you’re not a mop.

Sounds like my experience, been here 3 years now. I can count the number of friendly and helpful people I've met on one hand.

the biggest lie is the staffing process, the new staffing process doesnt mean anything much as well. it will always be the ol boys club and scraps for others.
good role = good ranking hence staffing process is the root of all issues at EM
supervisors dont care managers dont care they just do what theyre told

@OP sadly they don't care. That training, those shiny videos, those intranet posts showing happy people - it's all bullsh-t. XOM is a total sh-t show run by sociopaths who are only interested in money and power. In the end life is more about time than money - where do you want to spend your time?

I felt this post. I’m in uncon and the entitlement/politics of these outsiders coming in has become a mental health concern. These people have allied with jr XOM people who are gaining ground for whatever reason. This is most i have ever felt disenfranchised here ever. People we have never seen before getting jobs that we didn’t know existed or taking promotions that we didn’t know were available. You can say it’s life or the sign of the times. This is a people integrity issue. For you folks that are winning right now you will be on the bottom not to long from now. The paranoia you have now will get worse because your work life is a house of cards.

I feel you. But don’t let their incompetence become yours, regardless of how much they project. The best advice I can give is to understand your worth (and I mean literally, know your market value) then align your work ethic with what you’re actually being compensated for while you look for something else.

At the end of the day, it’s transactional. And I can assure you, that transaction is not tilted in our favor. Management either doesn’t care enough to ask what it’s costing people, or they’ve decided they’re comfortable with the answer. Either way, they’ve made their bed. Don’t exhaust yourself trying to make it more comfortable for them.
