@af Because they don't want to trigger the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
It’s a U.S. federal law requiring businesses to give employees with 100+ employees to give a 60 day advance notice before a mass layoff or plant closing.
Some businesses try to avoid using it because advance notice causes drops in productivity, high risks of workplace sabotage or data theft, public relations damage, and a loss of key people who leave immediately.
@ae what makes you say this? I thought they have been laying off people for weeks now. Why not just ripe off the band aid.
