Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Technical lead

After some reorg and layoff rounds, we have changed many managers into technical lead role at DPD even though they know nothing on technical. Is that why VSO/Optimus/X400/Santorini/Hydra fail? Are we having layoff again in September or October?

@dn Can someone please ask D-mbb Nutzzz (DN) where we are with Santorini today and if they ever found a customer to buy it?

@dv agree. They create something nobody want and mark done.

@da Actually, they wipe the slate clean after every failure and start over with a new project so they can escape accountability for the last failure. Rinse & repeat.

I actually heard a senior person on a call say "we'll build Santorini and we'll find someone to buy it". This is the state of Product Management now, letting engineers build what they want rather than what the customer needs. Good PMs have been let go and poor ones (DN) remain.

@by I didn’t say that they manage processes well - as a a matter of fact, they change the processes every couple of years because things aren’t working, My point was that’s all they know how to do, since they don’t understand the technology or products.

@bw LOL!! They don't even do that. There are no best-practice processes at Dell. That's why everything is always years behind schedule, over budget, full of bugs, and half baked. Leadership at Dell is the worst in the industry.

@OP Answer: the leadership in DP has gone downhill for years - the people that knew the technology either went to other companies or were fired, and professional managers (who knew nothing about the product) took over. They manage processes, not technology and product innovation

@OP Answer: These failures have TV and DN's fingerprints all over them. TV is gone, DN needs to be gone. Not a technical brain cell in their heads.
