Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Is USAA renewing H1B visas in 2026?

Curious to know if they are still renewing the H1B in 2026 ? Or they have stopped doing the renewals too?
I know they have stopped sponsoring work visas for new roles.

@7q4 FAKE NEWS!! My extension was approved four months ago, and several of my peers across different teams have had theirs approved as well. Keep celebrating if you think USAA has stopped extending H-1Bs. Reality says otherwise.

@80p lol, the minority immigrant employees layoff policy won't save you from the chopping block. USAA has been laying off everyone consistently over the last few years in the name of operational efficiency.

Citizenship isn't necessary. A green card will do. But the H1B scam is over. If India is such a wellspring of talent, there will be plenty of opportunity to flourish in Mumbai with all the other meritorious geniuses who keep calling me with fraudulent insurance offers.

Plenty of firms with Indian CEOs refuse to hire Whites. They must have lots openings for former H1B riders. Tata!

@kh Yup, no more renewals, no more immigrants. Merit is no longer a factor, only citizenship matters.

USAA is not renewing visas. They are definitely putting up a facade of doing so by initiating renewal process like collecting docs, saying prepping for LCA and H1B filing to keep immigrants working until the last hour. They then inform of the new company policy of no renewals around 50-60 days before visa expiry.

@3wk
But work doesn't actually get done there.
It is a culture of scammers and frauds who don't comprehend quality because they live in a literal garbage dump. Everything they do turns to trash. Even Google is basically unusable now because of the leadership of their best and brightest.

Yeah, this is no way going to help US, unless companies are forced to hire here. They would just move things offshore and get work done there.

@33b I am not sure about that. At usaa most H1b ftes are getting competitive salary but few may not new wage levels. Contractors from traditional consulting companies like tcs hcl are worst hit they always pay less. Mostly they keep less people at onsite and move more work to offshore. Nothing going to improve.

@30f What is the percentage of H1B holders across the US do you think will be impacted?

by
| | Reply
Post ID: @33b+1ktsa7wfb

Yes H1b wage level is increasing 30-50 percent by end of this year. So obviously they have to eliminate h1 whose salary level is low for the wage level. For sure company will not increase salary to match new wage level by more than 20%

@26g the moment we say “contract”, then by definition, that is not a highly skilled job by USCIS to warrant an H1B. This loophole needs to be closed.

Stupid thread. My h1 was recently extended without any drama. Unnecessary panic. Even if they fire all h1 employees nothing going to improve. 300*200k is only 60M.

They should clearly notify on renewal so that impacted can plan accordingly ..staying on uncertainities is difficult..

@mr More of an HR question - a company (any company) can say it wants you to keep working since you do a good job, but it doesn’t want to be involved in an immigration process.
So technically, they are not laying you off, are they?

Lack of transparency is part of this company, you will never know when you will be fired, no one is safe working there, so this move is not a surprise. Better go back to home country and live a life without immigration anxiety

Can USAA make arrangements with suppliers like HCL, IBM, etc. to transfer the H1b sponsorships? Many of the onshore 3Ps are on H1b.

In addition to it , In the current situation ..management and leaders scare to ask for exception approval .So chance is low for renew ..what ever the performance or dependecies is .. does not matter

@jh I agree.

Moreover, there are plenty of US citizens looking for jobs. A company will hire a USC rather than deal with uncertain immigration policies.

@jd :). Not sure how long you have worked in corporate America. They can do what ever they want, when ever they & with whomever they want. (This is true for all companie). Now appreciate the self awareness of being subjected to modern day slavary. :)

@e4 They’re not conducting any reviews. From what I’m hearing, they’re just not telling whether the visas will be renewed until the last minute, and it seems like they’re not renewing. Haven’t heard of anyone’s visa being renewed lately.

@bz Most H1bs are in tech role around 300-400 employees. It is roughly 10% of the total tech employees like dev ba data engineer etc
