Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco vacation

I’m seeing only 10 paid days for new employees in Cisco. Usually other companies offer 14-28 paid days based on joining time and service. Is this correct or am I mistaken? Also is the work life balance in UI/UX teams any good?

@et

You should be paid hourly.

Then you only get paid for actually working.

Btw this may come sooner than you think!

If it’s for the UX team I’m thinking of, you’ll be fine lol. I don’t think that hr posting is accurate at all unless Cisco quietly changed their policy.

The US is one of the few countries pretending to be first world which start at 10 days, and I've never heard of anywhere which used increments of seven, including lower end jobs where you have to work seven days a week by contract. At one point when most US firms started people at 10 PTO and 10 sick days for white collar positions Cisco gave you 20 to split as needed. You didn't get more for tenure, but you got a check for unused days when your employment ended. They went unlimited PTO to reduce the days people took and to avoid writing checks when people left.

UI/UX teams? Half of Cisco was routing and switching and the UI/UX was CLI where any random person working on a feature wrote their own CLI with a pathological need to violate the guidelines at every turn. At remote sites the hours made China's 996 look like slacking, although in San Jose the lights were on by default only 7 hours a day and the offices were half empty.
