@bc Yeah, he wasn’t planning to retire until late October but he didn’t seem exactly happy that he might be on the list. I should’ve asked more questions, but my assumption is that the money doesn’t mean as much to him as it would for me. Because he needed to turn some stuff over to our team (mainly my manager who’s very technical) he let that slip. But it’s not like I’m super close to this guy.

@bb if a RIF is imminent, he should hang on for a possible severance package. He can always quit later on his own if he isn't targeted.

Something is definitely going down soon. Someone in our org (a long time employee) announced that he’s planning to retire in a few months and they’ve been told by their manager that they need to turn over their stuff ASAP because they might be on the list. He was told that it’s critical to have turnover completed by end of this week.

I have no idea what this means regarding timing, but my guess is that something‘s gonna happen within the next two weeks. I don’t mean to be a fearmonger, but this is what this person shared with me. Obviously, it would be a blessing to be laid off right before you plan to retire, but unfortunately not all of us are in that situation. This is in the US.
