GOALS

“YoU wILL hAVE GOaLs by ThE sALEs mEeTInG”

All of you not looking for a job think about the fact that they could not give you a goal and then face you in person at the meeting. Cowards. That’s who you’re bending over backwards for working ridiculous hours with cr-ppy products - maybe making 25k in bonus after taxes. Salary commission and most importantly culture- are MUCH better other places.

@1cm it’s because Humanities reps have Gale numbers too. Libraries buy 100-500k annually. But they won’t this year.

We work for Liars. They will say anything that fits the short term (1 to 2 month) narrative. They have become talking heads, none of the sales team believes them when they open their mouths.

@1cm they also can’t even quantify these numbers unless they actually bill each student individually. 200k adoptions are mythical numbers at textbook companies. Like everything at cengage just made up numbers.

These Targets/Goals really doesn't matter, because this Year is doomed. They are basically 4th quarter goals, because we all have new schools. Historically. we see reps sell $20K to 100K, You may hear about a rep that has a 200K win but its not a normal thing.

At this point its all about the IPO.

@OP on cue got our goals today, since they didn’t want us to riot at the meeting. 12% increase - my teammate somehow has a goal that is 600k less than mine. Same team. Same products. Same pay. What a JOKE.

@q7 if you are still at a highered textbook company - no, I am not shocked.

"You’re overworked and woefully underpaid"

You would be shocked at how wrong you are.

@fk if you’re working for a competitor the jokes on you. They are literally all the same dog and pony show. You’re overworked and woefully underpaid. And it’s an embarrassing industry. Much better paying and respected jobs outside of textbooks in HigherEd.

As a former who now works for a normal - and phenomenally successful - competitor, I would love to learn details surrounding bonus plans these days @ Cengage. I'd also drool over tales from Vegas. Free snacks for those willing to share! :D

@OP managers have the goals too. OP is right- they couldn’t face the sales team. Goals are “aggressive”

@bh the comp plan is so ridiculous there is no way they will be able to remotely track any of it. So many hypotheticals. Never worked a sales job where we didn’t have a dollar number to obtain. This set up is so d-mb with so many hands in the pot and way too many variables.

what’s new about this? last year targets were given in late October! They need to see the sakes in September before they know what targets to give. the territory alignment is so messed up right now ,,, they have no clue what’s going to happen. Think about that…. with all the Tools to forecast ( spreadsheet, BMG reports, salesforce.com, EA/IA reports from bookstores, this management still has No clue what’ or how to Forecast what the money will look like until they see the billing! Crazy! Absolutely incompetent leadership.
Apollo has to get out with the IPO. and leave this mess to someone else.
