Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

The Spreadsheet Already Told You Why Your Role Got Cut at Teradata

If your role at Teradata was eliminated and you still insist you were ‘high performing,’ the numbers are laughing at you. Companies do not cut the people who are actually driving the growth they care about.
Cloud ARR keeps climbing (8–9% last quarter, double-digit earlier) and now makes up roughly 45% of total ARR. Margins are expanding sharply, EPS and free-cash-flow guidance just got raised, and the company is pouring resources into agentic AI, the Autonomous Knowledge Platform, hybrid deployments, and AI Factory for regulated customers. Recurring revenue is growing while they deliberately tighten the cost structure and headcount.
The roles that were not essential to that cloud-plus-AI, higher-margin direction were the ones that got removed. That is not bad luck or politics. That is the company showing you, in clear financial terms, exactly how little your contribution was worth to the future they are building.

I see someone bought the company lies about the quarter instead of looking at the justified market reaction. Teraturd is not an AI contender at all. You can try to paper over being a legacy managed services provider, but no matter if you classify the contracts as ARR the numbers are still flat and we are losing customers.

The smartest (growing) software companies in the AI bubble are using AI coding tools with subsidized tokens to increase their feature velocity, get through their backlog, and close security gaps. Meanwhile, we're using it to build a stupid AI coding harness worse than ones that are available everywhere for free. Then since nobody is in the market for this it will also be given away for free.

Any "agentic workflow" we think is a product that's trying to do "one shot" dynamic work will never match anyone's expectations. The entire industry tried these things (circa 2024) and produced a bunch of useless, token consuming non-sense that will be thrown on the scrap pile the instant the price of tokens goes up.

All of the cr-p Teradata is coming up with is useless junk that looks like baby's first AI project. One-shot "agentic" workflows provably do not work. Their repeated failures are why harnesses exist.

We could use our Claude code licenses to fix our many, many bugs and feature gaps...but we will not and will continue our downward spiral.

@bt If super-engineer had any useful skills, he would have been hired away by an actual growing company. He doesn’t and is stuck in this dog until they toss him out. His only outlet is to try to insult others more talented and who have much better skills.

So put your money where your mouth is. We don’t care about PR spin. Please list significant new logos and order amounts. We genuinely want to see the mighty Teradata’s penetration into this incredibly growing market. We are not talking about Bob’s Candy Store or the First Neighborhood Bank of Somalia.

So keep hallucinating widdle “engineer”. It will make you feel better as what few skills you have deteriorate at a legacy company and those much more talented than you go to real industry leaders.

This 'quote' sums up TD perfectly.

Companies don't care about performance. If you have a high salary, then you are an ideal candidate for termination. Reduced costs and quarterly profits are what appease the shareholders. You my friend are living in a fantasy world.
