@nb Something has to change. Us prem/wire technicians deserve a shot. For 15 years I've been applying to get out of this position. Sounds like you're just being selfish and are only worried about yourself and the people hired in around the same time as you. Which is actually the reason why we are in this position we are in now. Because in the early 2000s you guys were selfish and wanted higher wages. So the company said okay, we will give you higher wages but we're going to create a new position called the Prem/wire tech, and all of these new employees will be locked into lower wages and not have any opportunities to advance into core positions. So who is it that you think got sc--wed by the company?
It’s remains amazing for a company with all of these financial woes can continue to afford to pay SSIM techs to do Prem/Wire tech work
Yeah, the new combo tech title and recently updated testing requirement changes are a real heartbreaker for Digital and Systems Techs in the SE. They were the only two outside tech titles that REQUIRED the TKT2 (just like ET and TT) exam. Now that requirement is removed since 8/1, all outside core titles have the same required testing which is TMT3. I’m sure it was done purely to align with how they want the combo tech title to work, but it means elevated technology and digital concepts proficiency will no longer be a knowledge check for DEG, SSI&M and ABFS work functions.
Means Systems Techs, Digital Tech, Services Tech, Facility Tech, Outside Plant Tech and now Combination Tech are essentially the same which couldn’t be further from the truth. Just because the union has them all occupying the same family of skills doesn’t mean they are the same professionally. It’s a joke dude.
And the fact that they implemented one-way bumping rights for ET’s to bump into skill group 3 (where all those core outside titles reside) during a surplus is just sad.
So you can do FT work for 32 pay, or you can be expected to do ST, OPT, DT, ET and FT work all for the same pay.
They seem to have done a 180 on System Tech work. It was all the rage to them for a while. They loathed the “d-mb pipe”/local circuit that SSIM put in & said all the $$$ was in the Systech products being sold from the router on inward to the customer. What happened to all of the big (national) projects?
Systems techs got sc--wed the most. No protections at all. Their whole title will likely be declared “technological surplussed” and they will be gone. They won’t even get that 90 weeks pay. They will get nothing at all because the company will offer them a combo tech position and when they turn it down they are entitled to nothing. Genius on the part of the company. Evil and morally wrong but genius. “Thank you for your 30 years of service. Here is your swift kick in the butt and now he on your way”. Union sc--wed over all its members but sc--wed the systems techs the most.
What’s the plan to move the techs from the current title to the new combo title?
d3 doesnt get 104 weeks anyway, 90 weeks for 30 years. in this fiasco some may get at least 79 weeks if they cant do the new job and several probably wont. some will get medical.
at least around here i just dont see many that would be smart enough to learn power or central office responsibility.(new router tech)
unless they contract out theyll have a hard time with the new sdn projects.
Leg T contract is awesome and yes many workers are currently getting the 104 weeks pay.
