When will people on PIP know their final outcome? When will they exit?

@ca did your manager just put you on PIP out of the blue? Or did he have to document first? If yes, how long did that take?

Manager told me in a 1:1 that he is not happy with my performance and that I need to improve. No further details. I told him I try to improve. I have not heard from him for a month or two. Then he informed me put me in a pip. He laid down the goals which I met with support from my team. He soon left. Since then I got promoted twice within Cisco.

What was very helpful for my career was that my manager left. I'm not sure how one can continue working with such a manager ... In such a situation I can only recommend looking for another internal role if you have connections...

And was you offered a Mutual Separation Agreement before a formal PIP?

No.

Once you get put on PIP, NO one is your friend - manager, director or HR. Best trick is to show up with your 45 and challenge manager to a game of chess. Winner takes it all.

@e2 PIP is the long slow goodbye.

Big dawg if you get placed on a PIP, its time to start looking. There is no winning when they have complete power and leverage over you

Dig deep into your FTE medical benefits, they are there to protect you and your family. If you are willing to leverage they will extend your employment and income. Being informed is step one.

And while in PIP, can one resign with good standing?

That would mean you can resign a day before the end of the pip phase when it's obvious whether you passed or not.

That depends on your manager on what he communicated to HR. You need to discuss that with him.

I was put on pip and survived. Important: let co-works you trust know that you were put on pip and ask them to support you (brainstorming sessions, discussions, whatever helps you to succeed in solving your assigned tasks).

@b1 what is the full process? How long will one be in documented coaching? What is the MSA before PIP? And while in PIP, can one resign with good standing?

It's generally a 90-day process before they show you the door.

If you are placed on PIP you are going to be exited from the company. It is not a process to give you an opportunity to be more effective. The deck is stacked against you and the house will win. Your manager and leadership chain wants you gone.
