Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Rumored union EISP across the board now seems less likely

Hearing rumblings that while there maybe the usual EISP this year it may not be like some say.Its sounding more and more like it’s not going to be across the board for anyone everyone to take. Its sounding more like a limited one for associates. One reason seems to be some departments groups are so small already!!Another reason is they just have little interest in giving extra money away when they know most are on the short list already in years left. Some of it is also sounding like is union wise for good reason want to the company to declare too many surplus groups because there is not a lot of faith they will get as many takers with gatt rates and medical cost up leaving the door for forced adjustment and layoffs.

Heard the 3rd quarter eisp is canceled other than clerk positions and that will be in 4th quarter.

Dan wants to pay us each another six or seven hundred thousand $$ over four more years? OK in my book.

@j2 so did California. Nobody took them. Foolish. When the contracts up they won’t be offered anything to go.

Florida just had a voluntary package for core/copper techs only.

Package is called off until 4th quarter due to disagreements over how many techs can be let go.

I’m in New Jersey .We have had management telling us they hear something is coming .But as of Lately even the managers are starting to talk about some disagreements amongst the Ranks on what the package should be .Assuming there are many levels that go into the discussions from the dispatch on what they require as head count to operate to the higher levels wanting more off the pay roll. All this whole the accounting side makes decisions on cost.No one knows when or what .I personally don’t believe they will offer it across the board to everyone and anyone. It will be targeted limited

@as a surplus is necessary before a layoff. Not a buyout offer. In the past what has happened is a package is offered to top heavy locations. If no takers in those locations they expand the offering to other areas. If people in those areas take it. Then they force realign the people that didn’t take the package. To the areas that did. This is the way it’s been done since GTE.

I currently work for Verizon in PA (CWA) . There is a lot of talk on an offer coming by the end of the year. We will see. No word on What, Where and When. Fleet is holding vehicles, 2nd levels are hearing talk. Some say it will be x the board some say not. I personally think if we see one it will be in October and be off the books B4 1st quarter of next year so they don't have to pay for vac's. Who knows. We will find out.

@db I heard something will be announced by September 4th. Upper management have told union people to wait to retire this year because a package is coming. I’m not saying it’s true, only time will tell. Some of these posts are negative for what reason I don’t understand other than possibly believing it could be true and they are not ready to retire due to fear.

@cx What's cheaper for the company, an incentive that gets rid of people right now for $150k, or paying them $600k for 4 more years of employment, guaranteed by the contract extension?

@cx those younger workers aren’t going to sit around and wait for Verizon to call them back, they are going to move on to other jobs. The company will have to hire a new workforce and spend the money to train them. Nice try,

These people who think the company’s going to give them 150k-200k just to retire are straight up delusional lol. If they really want to reduce the size of the union they can declare surpluses for certain job titles, then layoff the new workers. THEN when the boomers get sick of actually having to work, they’ll retire on their own. Then the company can bring back those it laid off. Bo-m! It’s that simple.

GATT rate at all time high and Healthcare not affordable anymore it's not a great time to retire.

I'm hearing the TDS non-union employees will be getting cut next. If you have Trump Devotion Sickness, you should start looking for a new gig at the McDonald's fry station.

Shocker…..completely different “rumors” about what the EISP will be.

A. This is a website about layoffs

B. This is certainly NOT the place to get information to base on a potential retirement. Once the factual information is released we will all have the details and you should call your local official for questions & answers, not rely on information here

@OP isn’t a declared surplus necessary first before an eisp is offered?

Let's be honest, folks at the phone company have been making a decent living for a long time and unfortunately many aren't in a good financial situation (living beyond means). So couple that with the economy over the past couple years... and I see firsthand guys with 30+ years who CAN'T take it and leave. And it really su-ks for the younger guys or guys who are waiting to go to construction, etc.
