Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How long are/were given to decide PIP or PIL? 21 days ? Or 7 days?

I saw a post with 21 days listed as the decision timeframe. Some countries seem to be told 7 days. What’s your experience ?
Also, when is your last day on payroll if you choose the PIL? If you are eligible to retire, do you retire the day after you leave with PIL?

@dg thanks for the feedback - I agree with the PIL you are signing away your rights but realistically, what grounds do you have for suing? When it’s first NSI and they give you choice of PIP or PIL, they are not terminating you, not don’t really see what you can sue for.

Unless there is a class action down the line, but this seems quite unlikely ?

If you choose the PIL your last day on the payroll is 3 months from your last workday which starts on the day you sign the waiver plus up to 5 days for handover. So if you sign on September 1st and you have 5 days of handover your last day in the office could be as late as September 8th making your last day on the payroll December 8th (confirmed this with HR).

Sounds like a good deal, but with the Waiver you are waiving your right so sue the company for wrongful termination (including age discrimination). Is the extra service, vacation accrual, etc. really worth giving up that option?

I believe if you are retirement eligible you can retire any time during the 3 month PIL or after it ends.

It is nearly impossible to get answers from HR. They simply do not respond.

In the US it’s 7 days if you’re under 40 years of age, 21 days if you’re 40 or older

@ab It’s HR that’s giving the number of days to respond.
How many days are you given to respond in the US? 21 days?
