Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

The unfortunate 10%

Wondering what might happen to the 10% that were placed in bottom ranking group. Will they automatically get terminated? Will they get severance? In most cases placement was probably due to performance but have heard of a few cases where managers made false accusations to force placement in the bottom and satisfy the newly established quota.

Just to clarify, your performance ranking has nothing to do with being "unfortunate". This isn't a lottery folks. Similarly, those in the bottom 10% were not randomly "placed". This is a performance based outcome. We aren't a gubbermint jobs program.

@fa Well that is all quite very interesting. Where did you get these dates from? I’m in the CA Function in the U.S., and we had an All Hands Call last week. Our SVP mentioned a couple dates in Late September and Early October, but said nothing about the timeline you supplied. In fact our SVP barely said anything about the Selection Process.

Everyone was ranked at mid year. There was forced ranking of 10%. Unless it is obvious that you are not meeting expectations, you are not told you are in the bottom 10. I heard in bp solutions they were told to rank the bottom 25%. Headcount numbers are determined and they are slotting people into roles. T4 and below in US will be told around Thanksgiving. UK will be told December 6. This is for upstream, downstream and functions. Finance folks were notified last week. 177 UK jobs gone so the bulk will probably be in HCC US. This does not include pending divestments.

@dz

Let's review, shall we? The entire post in question:

"The boat needs to move forward faster. Why should we not cut the slowest 10%?"

Yes I read it all. Both sentences even.

Nothing in there about managers, lying, or performance reviews.

Just some blatant cheerleading over cuts in order to "move forward faster". I guess executive-level compensation isn't quite high enough for your tastes?

Perhaps lay off the mescaline before your next posting attempt.

@c3 Agree but some in that category have no history of poor performance and were recently put there based on a false narrative created by their manager. In the US managers can get away with that because of at will employment.

@dt Boot licking? Did you even read the whole post? I literally just called out managers who lie on performance reviews. You need to work on your reading comprehension.

@c3

Isn't your massive bootlicking enough?

No? Since you don't offer anything else of value, sounds like you'll be top of the list.

And they say that good things aren't happening here...
