Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Every capped H1B should have to reinterview against Americans yearly

We really need to address Oracles abuse of H1B. They lay off Americans and then hire more H1Bs at the same time. There should be a requirement for capped H1Bs to have to interview for the job with a group of qualified Americans yearly. This way we can prove the H1B is needed over an American. Especially at Oracle. I guarantee the H1B wont' be needed because we have a qualified American for the job.

Lol. What code? Have you tried Codex?
Coding is gone, forever, it's the same arcane niche skill as assembler used to be (and now covered by agentic code assist as well).
Experienced architects with wide experience in management and business are the only ones relevant for now, because they know how to organize building and delivering a system to solve a business need they can recognize and comprehend.

@ap code writing is not needed. AI can do that. Analysis of the code and integration is the new skill.

@b3 you were no manager in Oracle. Or else h1 is least of your problem. Problem is the aholes start working in the morning , do nothing and go home dumping the work on an h1. At the time of RIF , who do you think is let go off first ? Keep bullsh-tting all day dont help to actually get the work done

@e2 too bad. H1s built an AI that can write code better than you. That h1 is still needed to improve the AI , you are not. Bye

If you could write descent code you would not be wasting time here on this MB after leaving the company.

@ar I can write good code. And I can speak and write proper English, too.

I found a better job. All native English speakers. It's the dream. Never going back to an offshore or team full of H1Bs again.

I'm just a passerby. Never worked here, but worked at another large corpo that did the same practice.

@aw I don’t think you know what anti-Semitic means.

I was a manager. My H1Bs were paid exactly the same as my American employees. A little more if you consider the legal fees. The H1B problem isn't about individuals, it's a systemic problem: no new H1B visas should be approved while RIFs are ongoing.

@ap

You can't write descent code either. If you were really any good, you would not have spend so much time here b*tching because you would not have to worry about being laid off or finding another good job.

@am H1Bs can't write significant code without a ton of revisions to clean it to.

@a5 I mean if Oracle or anyone hires an H1B (capped meaning its not a school or some charity) then that H1B employee should have do re-interview with the employer against other American candidates. If the H1B employee succeeds the American candidates then they keep their H1B. If the H1B employee doesn't do better than American candidates then they lose their H1B and go home

What do you mean? It doesn't make sense. I worked at Oracle for the latest for years and realized it was an Indian company.

The solution is simple, as has been explained to repeatedly on this MB. All you need to do is contact your rep. Problem solved.
