Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

You know what's becoming more and more obvious?

The execs would love to run this place with zero employees, they just can't yet. But that's their goal. Not even India is safe from this. I can't wait for the AI bubble to burst and with it their dreams of bringing the actual workforce to a bare minimum. And it's only a matter of time before it happens.

They have been saying "make due with less". At this point, it is becoming too crazy for work. Not only not knowing if you will be laid off but also noticing people/departments you used to depend on are no longer there!

It's not AI. That's just an excuse being used by them. Every round of layoffs the work for everyone else just gets to be more and more. AI has reduced nothing. Dell can't use AI effectively. I can't keep up with my workload any more, so I just quit trying. I take my time, and they can lay me off if they don't like it. I used to love this company, and now it's total trash

Not much different than billionaires running the world with less people. They don’t need us anymore.

Rich getting richer.. And re-tards at top are now making things so tough by not paying on time or giving visibility to sales... To force people out.

@e5 That may be partially true, but corporate profit margins are the highest they've been in 70 years.

@e5

100%

Unfortunately, businesses in general, are trying to do this.

As the months and years pass, companies will lean into this. I can't see them letting up unless there is a big shock to the stock price.

Think about Customer Service. Customer Service has been going down because companies do not want to invest in it. Yet, people still buy from these companies.

People at the top do not care about the day to day operations. They just say, deal with it.

This is why people need to save as much as they can. If possible, you need to have an economic cushion in case of layoffs.

this is the stark reality of current society

companies need to be competitive or they die. if they cant compete on price, they can't stay competitive. if they have significant costs (salaries) over and above their competitors, they can't compete on price.

every company is motivated to have as few employees as possible delivering as much stuff as possible.

That wish sadly will not occur.

Kristalina Georgieva's Warning on AI and Office Workers

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has repeatedly warned that artificial intelligence is hitting the labor market "like a tsunami," with particularly severe implications for office workers. She elaborated on this urgency in January 2026 at the World Economic Forum in Davos:

"We have very little time to get people ready for it, businesses ready for it. Wake up. AI is for real, and it is transforming our world faster than we are getting a handle on"

Geoffrey Hinton, the "Godfather of AI", has issued stark warnings about the future of office work.

"office workers face a precarious future where "mass displacement is more likely than not."

Companies have collectively agreed not to start mass panic and such they roll out layoffs in waves, ones that won't stop.

Panic will eventually be unavoidable (my bet is 18 months to somewhat start and 3 yrs absolutely) but with Flock everywhere and increasing there won't be much room for the unrest.
