This ramping up of AI feels insanely near sighted, selfish, and unethical.
I'm having a hard time stomaching it. There are no real business LEADERS in the world anymore. Just sheep who think about nothing but the next quarter.
Posting complaints on internet sites literally increases revenue for data centers. You can’t have the internet without data centers

Wow the irony of people going online to gripe about data centers lol… Don’t the luddites and cro mags realize literally everything you do that involves networked communication is dependent on data centers? Your bank account, your Social Security, cell phone, Internet, health records,… Everything. So unless you’re advocating for all human society to revert to pre-cell phone, pre-Internet days, you’re treading into hypocrisy. But the funniest part is that every time you go online to gripe about a data center you are literally providing business to data center and lining their pockets. Ironic. Plus: US Bank has some damn good data centers.
@ef I think nuance is important here. When you're that age and have been somewhere for this long, ESPECIALLY when you were brought up in an workforce that praised tenure and loyalty, we can just understand that someone didn't want to move companies which is totally fine. It's their personal choice to do that, and if it works for them that's fine.
Millennial here, and I know all generations are not happy about data centers and AI. I don’t work with boomers now but was trained by one who was fantastic. I work with a lot of GenX. GenX are leading more corporations than boomers now. You know who I see protesting, going to city council meetings to raise he-l about a data center springing up near my town? Boomers and GenX with a few millennials sprinkled in. I saw more Boomers than GenZ protesting against ICE. I hate it when people generalize about generations. It’s just plain wrong and you all sound like fools. We’re all adults here. You have to make your voice heard in the right places. Put your da•• face out there. Don’t be anonymous here be OUT there in public! And PLEASE vote! FYI. My boomer grandfather got a Purple Heart in Vietnam and suffered horrible PTSD, but of course there was no one who gave a rats a-s about that back then. My grandmother marched for women and animal rights when they did not exist. So sure, there are insufferable people out there in every generation but to generalize and outright degrade an entire generation is not cool. If you don’t like your politicians, then VOTE you id--ts. If you hate boomers so much, guess who always shows up to the polls? Get the next generations in office!
@e6 I cringe every time I see a slide on employees with ridiculous tenures like 35, 40, 45, I have even seen 50 years at the bank. Of course the CEO or EVP is celebrating those id--ts. They just worked for low wages for decades. Why anyone would work for more than 10-15 years at one company is beyond me. Do they not see how much earnings they are leaving at the table? Lack of personal finance education in high schools really sc--wed the commoners.

Boomers still think you should walk into a company and hand HR your resume. The best one I heard from a wrinkled clueless Boomer was there is no affordability crisis, there are dozens of starter homes available in Phoenix for $95K. SMH

Fools like @as and @ax do exist. I see them initiating and participating in Teams channels where such id--ts post meaningless AI generated pictures of themselves as victorian era or western cowboy or wanted posters of, well, still id--ts.
I do not think they are bad people. Just uninformed.
They don't have a clue on how natural resources like fresh water are needed to run these massive AI data centers nor do they understand the 6x cost of using co-pilot over a google/bing search.
So yeah, they do live under a rock in their own merry little simple world ignoring problems they are creating for their future selves because of course, it's the immigrants that are the cause of all problems.

The planet isn't collapsing and there's no reason to believe AI will be any more revolutionary than Iron, Steel, Electricity, Mechanized Farming, or the Microprocessor.
I like complaining about stupid sh-t as much as the next guy but you really need some historical perspective if you're attitude is that pessimistic. Compared to the historical norm, things are pretty good. DAMN good.
Get a load of this guy...they building a whole GCC to replace humans like him and he lamented about data centers
