Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

AEST-Manufacturing Engineering Headcount Reduction

We’ve heard rumors of domestic onsite engineering headcount reductions in favor of offshoring work to the KLTC and BTC. Finally heard a real number; a 40% to 50% reduction in onsite engineering at the manufacturing sites by ~2030. Already importing folks from KL and BTC to fill key business team rolls onsite. Soon XOM will be run from Malaysia and India. Prepare your resumes.

@eh I mean that might work for Guyana but definitely won’t work in other Upstream BU’s.

The long-term goal is that ExxonMobil will own the assets but a 3rd party company will operate the asset. 3rd party companies pay significantly less than ExxonMobil and most 3rd parties have no medical benefits or 401K retirement plans.

Guyana is a recent textbook example of we own the floating platforms but non-ExxonMobil employees operate the assets.

I’ll be purchasing a house next to the site if this ever happens. I’ll be collecting a check every time they blow something up or gas the local neighborhood. It will be a continuous income stream.

“Will the blue collar workers at the sites in Texas be replaced by the Expats?“

We also seem hellbent on driving out the older FLS/SLS blue coats as well. You know the ones with all the experience and run the place.

Will the blue collar workers at the sites in Texas be replaced by the Expats? If so when?

Good luck getting anything done in the plants submitting engineering tickets like IT tickets. Nothing will get done!

$1 billion/year in savings based on salary arbitrage is what they are claiming. But at the cost of quality and competence!

This ends in people dying and assets on fire, which I’m betting most of us would never want, no matter how bad we hate watching it firsthand. The CSB video will not be kind to our overlords as it tells the tale about long term employees trying to warn management but were told to say the Emperor indeed wore clothes.

@an Read the book? If so, read it again. Your bosses are acting in close accordance with Rand’s objectivist world view.

There is no stopping it. Find a new job and quit before they do a mass layoff and you are stuck trying to sell and find a new job at the same time as everyone else.

Time for Atlas to shrug. Stop correcting their work. Don’t pick up the phone at night. Senior leaders are surprised by how fast the TCs have supposedly grown in competency, so let them handle the big problems.
