@ph actually you need to file as soon as you are unemployed regardless of severance. You just won’t get paid out until the severance period ends.

@et first of all, your response is rude and argumentative without facts. Perhaps your market worth in the DFW area is less than what you were being paid by T-Mobile. If you were just an average worker, best of luck.

My understanding is that if you are receiving continuation of pay after your garden leave you cannot file for unemployment. Once, your continuation of pay has ended and if you are not working, you can apply for unemployment benefits in Texas.

@OP , happy to hear that your TWC issue is resolved. I was not able to find any reported historical or current issues regarding T-Mobile’s inability to meet its state and federal unemployment tax obligations. As you will soon find out, unemployment insurance is a lot cheaper than keeping you on payroll.

The more troubling question is why is it taking you so long to find a new job? Texas is booming! Do you need help with your job search, resume, or LinkedIn profile? Be honest, were you part of a “layoff” or “fired”?
