Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

RTO changes coming our way?

Since we follow the lead set by the big banks, is this next for us?

“Bank of America changes up work-from-home policy for all hybrid employees.

Bank of America is enforcing a new post-COVID policy where hybrid-eligible employees are no longer allowed to work remotely on back-to-back days, the Charlotte-based financial giant confirmed Wednesday.

This means Bank of America employees will still have flexibility with three days in the office and two days working from home, but remote days cannot fall on consecutive days, such as Thursday and Friday or Monday and Tuesday.“

@gv The MC is d-mb but not that d-mb, I don’t see a mass exodus of people quitting and they know that few are going to quit. If they do, they’ll replace with offshore or with thousands of talented people that are looking for work. No one on my team is happy about RTO. No one on my team has quit. I know a couple that are looking for fully remote but there is nothing out there there that pays enough to justify it. If you’re not working in an area that is IT you will find something eventually but more than likely going to be Hybrid. Until these types of jobs are in demand again I don’t see a mass exodus of people quitting because of RTO.

@ar They are tracking the full 8 at US Bank, just not sharing the reporting.
Directors in divisions I support have already told their exempt employees to be in office the full 7 hours unless traveling. And non exempt to be in office their full 8 hours, which is technically 8.5 to 9 hours since lunch is not paid.

@aa yea but if they're going to tell me what days I have to come in that's not a great tradeoff. I prefer to do tues-thurs because I focus better in the office when my workload is heavier.

Like half the building is empty just leave me alone and let me work at this point.

Fu-k Bank of America and Fu-k Brian Moynihan. Bunch of greedy ba----ds. It’s all about controlling people and pushing them out the door. They want to make it as uncomfortable as possible to push people out the door so they don’t have to pay severance. I hope they go bankrupt. Remember people, corporations don’t give a sh-t about you or your family. You are all just an expense on a report.

@ez yup I already sold all my shares. I doubt we're at the top yet but with the general attitude I see around here the cracks are starting to show. Took my profit and bounced.

@ev I'm well aware. Their approach isn't sustainable though, and it will eventually backfire. Slimming down the workforce to bolster stock has a limit on effectiveness. Once results tank because they got rid of all the knowledge and tenure, the stocks will also be hit and Gunjan will be posted with her golden parachute and new ruler will be brought in to "fix" it.

@ax but sadly they will just fire you... For this stupid RTO requirement. It's not a side effect, it's the purpose of arbitrary, useless, and dehumanizing RTO polices. But first they'll put you on a pip to avoid payout of firing you, so it's an effective way to depress the workforce and cause workers to leave out of frustration without having to pay out severance. True leadership.

In McKinsey's eyes, I mean Gunjan's eyes, a beaten down workforce is a good workforce.

Mental Breakdowns + AI = ... profit?

Perhaps, but

Layoffs & Employees Quitting = Stocks Up

@an Funny--I intentionally came in Monday and Friday specifically to avoid Wednesday. That's the day the locals who were in-office pre-pandemic created the highest traffic.

If it came down to a Wednesday day in or nothing, I'd probably use SSL.

@ar if they do this here, they'll just have to fire me. I was trusted to work from home for literal years. People that have kids and an hour commute cannot spend a full 8 hours. It's just not possible.

The only reason they're doing this is to make people quit or to fire them and not rehire their role or to ship it offshore for pennies

My best friend works there and her manager said it's explicitly to try and get more people to leave they are also now monitoring there hours and they have to be in office the full 8. No more going in later and leaving early to avoid traffic and finishing your hours at home.

If you read other articles, it's to manage office space as they were finding most employees coming in Tues-Thurs and WFH Monday's and Friday's.

Only 12 days in office? That’s better than us because we have to go on 15 days on some months to ne greater than 60 percent requirement.

14.2 days means we have to do 15 days
