Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Severance

Is it going to be the same as the last time? I'm hearing there might be some reductions, but I truly hope that's not true.

I make under 100k.

If you can take a moment to comprehend what was written, you’ll see that I stated the lump sum only benefits senior directors who absolutely make 200k and up.

Lump sum doesn’t make sense for the rest of us.

@f1

You make a tad under 200K and asking for sympathy. IRS defines you are the rich and slaps extra Medicare - yes your 200k plus your interest income and capital gains and the insurance coverage provided by the firm will push you above the 200k line EASILY

And you whine! You should not even be provided with a severance rich brat

Exactly this. People didn’t understand or heed how much impact it would cause moving from a separation package which essentially continued your normal pay deposit and healthcare at 2 weeks for every year of service to a severance model which is one lump sum taxed at a much higher rate and no continuing healthcare.

It works great for the wealthy like our senior directors and above, not so much for those of us living paycheck to paycheck making under 200k a year.

Severance is a thing of the past unfortunately. They are full of tactics to avoid paying it.

No longer one pay for every year of service. If you get one at all, it is usually only for a lump sum of a smaller amount.
