lol - talk about my manager pulling a smart move and not ever having 1:1 for the last I don’t know 6-7 years.
@e9 well I saw they cleaned the pond at RTP so it must be closing soon.
@ps Actually, that’s incorrect. Leaders are frequently assured they’ll receive backfills after managing out underperformers, yet those commitments are routinely denied, forcing the remaining team to absorb the extra workload.
Nothing is truly guaranteed, even promises made on company wide calls.
This only incentivizes managers to keep poor performers in place.
@OP i have the feeling this one will not hit BUs that were affected in May.
Do the lower level leaders know yet who and how many?
@m9 This last LR was earnings call + ceo email on Wednesday afternoon, impacted employees were notified the next day (Thursday). So it all happened the same week. Look for clues earlier in the week like a rescheduled 1x1 meeting. And any last minute 1x1 meeting invites with no context are always a bad sign. Good luck, everyone.
@ht If they really wanted to go, they'd have taken the option to leave before going on the PIP.
And tbh, any manager/director/VP who is using an LR to get rid of people on PIP are making a huge mistake. It's objectively a bad idea to do it that way.
If a position is affected by LR, that position disappears with no chance for backfill. You literally have to justify a net new headcount addition to replace someone let go via LR. And that process, besides being a giant PITA, generally has a pretty low chance of success.
Positions vacant because of performance issues, though, get backfills approved pretty quickly in most cases. It may take a couple of months sometimes to get thru the red tape, but ELT is on the record saying performance management backfills will be honored. I was skeptical when I first heard it during a leader check-in a few months ago, but I've seen performance management backfills honored even during the most recent hiring freeze.
Our ‘new’ chief legal officer brought with her and implemented Microsoft’s perspective on employee data to Cisco: i.e. “employees are the enemy”. Unless you work in Legal it was a subtle shift— but Cisco will never be the same.
I backup all of my files from my computer to an external drive every month. Never had issues.
Do layoffs notifications happen the same week or after?
not exactly true
I was hired later than you and I was able to move docs from my laptop to my home computer without being slapped over the wrist.
Moving wasn't the problem. The fact that they can later prove you moved it in a court of law was the goal. Then, about 3 years ago, they stopped the use of PST files in Outlook (to stop you archiving mails) and then about 2 years ago, they stopped the PC from mounting external USB drives.
They do NOT want you to copy anything, even your own work. Even if you are retiring and know that you will very likely get a few calls to check if "you still have that document" = they don't care. I have a colleague retiring, and they started to threaten him 6 months before about taking data (and I suspect they start monitoring the desktop more keenly then as well).
When will people on pip exit?
@fx would have believed u had you not included "sharing a joint" there is no was in he-l that di-khead smokes.
The truth is ... and I'm quite confident you will believe me:
I'll never forget when ChatGPT was first released. I was at a conference in Bangalore with G2, walking down the road next to our five-star hotel sipping our chais. G2 turned to me and said, "Isn't this great? This will help us getting CSCO up to $120 in 2026 and $500 in 2027". What a profound conversation that turned out to be.
@ev you think because you used to be able to means it wasn't there all along?

@bz good. Sales hasn’t done sh-t for a while.

`@aw Anyone downvoting this doesn't have a fu--ing clue. I've had the corporate "spyware" on my laptop since I was I hired over 9 years ago. It's always there, always doing it's thing. Nobody on the LR list gets extra inspection software insalled. This may be have been true 10+ years ago, but it's not now.
The software Cisco installs is to protect against data loss and exfiltartion. Cisco has assets they need to protect 24/7, not just for a few weeks once per qrt.

Did this few times when I thought I was going to be out in that round and I was saving my work.

Everyone already knows the drill once restructures are announced in the earnings call or CEO email. You should be worried if your manager moves your existing 1:1 to a 9:30AM time slot. Or your manager keeps your existing 1:1 if it already falls on the day of layoffs and tells you then. Regardless, very likely before noon in both cases.
Be prepared to have your manager and some colleagues ghost you after you're told the news. And one day before you know it, your last day comes and that's it. No thanks, no good job, no nothing.
Any news on when RTP is closing?
@a6 Splunk has already been hit hard! Old news! Come out with something better
@bz I’ve heard the same thing from executive leadership top down. And those not using AI the way they’ve been wanting everyone to.
The August LR is heavily sales focused. Complete restructuring of sales.

I don’t understand why this is getting downvoted.

What are you talking about with the PC monitoring that is copying data?
Every company runs software in the background detecting leaving the laptop.
Smart-as--s detect this software and think that's a sign of layoff. That's just a sign of a company caring for intellectual property 365/7/24.

My manager seems to be avoiding me, and has not joined our regular weekly 1:1, is there a clue?
You post this before every layoff ... and apparently, nothing has happened ever. Keep on posting this before future layoffs. That will let us know you are still around. Thank you.
Splunk will be hit hard.
