MPC & P66 merger

Just read an article about merger talks earlier this year. Nothing materialized and nothing more is expected to happen but it made me wonder what the combined company would have been like to work for after the merger.

Having joined MPC from Andeavor/Tesoro, I know things got noticeably worse once MPC took over. Both in little and big ways, it’s not been as enjoyable, fulfilling, and rewarding to work at MPC. No doubt MPC has created shareholder value way beyond what was thought possible at Andeavor but I’m 99.99% an employee and only 0.01% a shareholder so I’m not feeling much of that “value add” from MPC.

So, all that is to say: Would an MPC/P66 company have been better or worse?

13 years? Dare I ask if you were hired on at Andeavor? Their salary bands were all higher for the same jobs than MPC. Those hired post MPC acqusition have been brought in at lower salary bands than legacy Andeavor peers, while working beside them doing the same job or even outperforming them.

@kt a 13 year in HR doesn't count. See yourself out.

There is no such thing as a merger of equals. One management team takes the lead.

@fy from what I have found, it wouldn't have been a one purchasing another like ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil or Phillips Petroleum buying Conoco back in 2002. It would have been a merger of equals, but having left P66 for MPC, MPC's environment is much better. P66's Business Transformation cut $1.4B the first year and it was brutal. McKensie & Co came in with their typical play book and all tools were rationalized, entire organization restructured and rounds upon rounds of layoffs. Layoffs were happening what seemed to be every 9 months to a year.

It’s unfortunate that you feel that way. I’ve been with MPC for over 13 years, and my career here has been enjoyable, fulfilling, and far more rewarding than my experiences at other companies and in other industries.

Depends, who would of bought whom?
