Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

"This is fine."

We've got staff with no drive, broken management, layoffs of experienced people, and no growth path. Other than that, everything's fine.

Reminder if you’re here complaining, you mostly su-k at your job and don’t deserve any raise or bonuses. Of course, you’re here whining.

Can confirm: your self description appears perfectly accurate.

Cisco has been making many of the same catastrophic mistakes for over four decades and with no internal path to raise many problems a few try to climb the outside of the building to draw attention with only the slightest hope it might lead to positive change.

The people who don't deserve raises or bonuses (or jobs) are the ones who can't see over four decades of damage and when presented with proof still do nothing to improve things.

A few of us who moved on to companies that don't rely on the theory that "no one ever got fired for buying IBM" long after IBM became irrelevant in many markets come here to remind people if they have real skills they can be both used and grown elsewhere in ways that will never happen at Cisco. The only true justice would be if Cisco goes down it goes down only with people who never made an effort to get better.

If I was your manager, I’d reduce ya pays. You get what you pay for. It’s that simple.

I been promoted 4 times since I joined and to be honest it wasn’t that hard. I’m very happy with my high compensation. If you’re not there, I know you just su-k.

@eh Looks like you will learn the hard way.

Have seen hard-working over-achievers get LR'd over and over.

The safest bet is to kiss a-s and spend time on doing the bare minimum, but spend tons of time praising others and also kissing their a-s, in presence of your boss and their boss, at off-sites. Spend your energy in being fake and just a fantastic full-of-sh-t team player. That is your best protection.

Working hard is a waste here. It is a culture of fakeness.

Provide indispensable skills, do the hard stuff that most people on this board won't do and embody yourself with AI with most of your daily tasks. That's how you avoid an LR list regardless of your reporting chain.

This will sting but if you are not growing at Cisco it's your own fault. Two promos for me in four years, but I put in the work outside of my day job. Maybe you are not good as you think you are. Look in the mirror. Sorry for the hard truth

You just put a "Let's LR this guy, he is too expensive" on your back sooner than you think.
Any accelerated progression in your career gets you there

Let me ask you this, what do you preffer

  • get a promotion twice and get to 300K per year (just an example) an get LRed in two years
  • start at 200K and get to 300K in 10 years ?

Sonner or later you might get LRed

@bq You sound like me a few years back.

Then the management chain that promoted me moved on. I was placed under a new management chain, completely different both in work culture and world culture to the organization that originally promoted me.

Also, due to the promotions, I was now a senior person in the new organization; now working for a management chain for which my original work capacities were now perhaps seen as perhaps a competitive threat, but most likely, with the new organizational norms; not within the expectations. What was high involvement in my old organization, turned into exclusion from planning and new projects. The new leaders did not request, nor care, about my involvement.

Within nine months I was LR'd out of the new organization. My work responsibilities were outsourced to red badges twelve time zones away.

I would not look in the mirror. You might see someone that the new organization does not want to see as part of their established team. It easily happened to me.

Just a friendly reminder that the grass isn’t greener on the other side. Cisco is the best place you can be. We need to su-k it up and do our best no matter what. We are Cisco!

Let’s go out there and kick everyone’s but! Who’s with me? ✊

You can't have the company number #1 workplace across continents, countries, counties, tribes, families and have what you said, therefore you are a liar :-) .....or the poll results are ?! ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Bottom line is that the money can buy you anything and the stock is up so that buys the people to say all is good and buys the poll results so you are a liar again
