Thread regarding Fannie Mae layoffs

What’s really going on?

There’s a growing concern about how decisions are being made. On top of everything else, there seems to be a pattern where certain groups receive preferential hiring and protection when their managers share the same background. This creates an uneven culture where opportunities, visibility, and project access aren’t distributed fairly. Many employees feel sidelined while others are consistently shielded, and it’s affecting trust across the team

@hn People tend to select or promote individuals who share similar backgrounds or personal familiarity. Even when an organization has a formal diversity or inclusion function the actual team often ends up reflecting personal comfort zones rather than broad equitable representation.
This creates clusters of employees who receive more access, visibility and opportunities while others are unintentionally excluded from key projects, communication loops and design discussions. Over time, this reinforces the same internal networks and limits fair competition for roles.
It may be valuable for an external auditor or independent reviewer to periodically assess team formation, access to information and promotion pathways to ensure decisions are based on capability and transparency rather than informal familiarity patterns.

@h1 One group, sr director, director, managers and the rest of the team, total 12 belong to same language and caste. Most of them don't do any work. Others get fired but they are standing like pillars. They even claim others' work as theirs.
There's no Racism, favoritism here :)

@f2 what if that “sub culture” is borderline criminal and racist (favoring certain groups by caste/tribe)… are you supposed to also accept that?

Your point was stupid. You could day I did not see any if the favoritism etc, I am not sure its happening. Instead you are saying its racist to point out disgusting borderline criminal activity which happens to be unique to one culture (so it happens there are no caste systems in many countries, at least not today).

I am Indian and I oppose it, you should do it too. I don’t want that “culture” to be representative of where I come from. Instead of saying that you somehow justify it by saying get over it, its just a subculture and you are racist to point that out.

Naturally one has to think why ? One explanation could be that you benefit from it.

Just to be super clear , this is not agianst all Indians (like myself ) its against those involved in this gross activity.

My post pointing out this is another veiled racism thing gets burned while every follow up post on this either directly or obviously insiuates all of you being racist about Indians in tech. It's freaking NoVA and Dallas, both of those have huge Indian sub cultures. Quit being gross.

@cn when I joined Fannie I was flabbergasted by the culture of Indian contractors and those semi isolated groups and how they operate. Needed to bring up to my sr director multiple times when we needed to push back on some clowns trying to escalate stuff to us because they have their self imposed deadlines. Like ok buddy you did not tell me 3-6 months ahead that you will need 100 hours of my time for your pet project I’ll get no credit for. Dozens of those VPs are playing those games surrounding themselves with buddies

@bx this has been going on for years. I have seen these things first hand. Why is Pulte not investigating this?!? These people are still employed and they deserve to be fired.

@af I agree.
It’s becoming obvious that serious questionable activities took place last year. Some employee actions were dismissible offenses, including kickback‑like behavior and clear conflicts of interest.

It also appears that certain hiring managers may be running side businesses that operate like body‑shop setups, bringing in contractors from their own firms or personal circles or caste based. This creates unfair advantages and a closed hiring loop where the same people are favored while others are pushed out. The whole situation raises major concerns about integrity, transparency, and accountability.

This has been going on for a while. The layoffs highlighted it.

People the above statement “racism” are either stupid or the folks benefiting from the system.

(Note there was no race mentioned, but people are quick to label it things to shut down all conversations). Everyone knows at core what the comment was about.
