The problem is that people like Cameron have lived affluently all their lives. They have no idea how life is for the average person. Imagine Lucille from Arrested Development: "It's one banana, Michael. What could it cost, $10?".
For example, Cameron went to Oglethorpe University. Yearly tuition is a base price is $50,000. After dorm prices and whatever, it's easily approaching $70,000/year. It's a 4 year course, so his family spent somewhere around $280,000 on his education. Clearly, he comes from money.
After graduating, within a few years he was a vice president. There's no details about it but I'd wager nepotism was involved.
Now he lives in a 6000sqft 4 million dollar house, paying property taxes that cost as much as his average workers salary.
This is a man who hasn't worked his way up. He doesn't know how it is to live like everyone else. You think he cares about people getting laid off? He's never experienced it, its something that happens to the "others".
The problem in the end isn't really Cameron's fault. We live in a society well within late stage capitalism where the wealthy grow their wealth at incredible rates at the expense of the average person.
Cameron's job at the end of the day is to get the stock price up, and if he does he gets a nice fat bonus, a bonus which is more money than most of us will ever have, in 1 payment.
How do you get the stock up after f*cking everything up for almost a decade now? Lay off, more lay offs and even more lay offs. Offshore workers replacing costly workers. Money, revenue, income, at the cost of anything, as long as that stock price goes up a cent.
