Curious like how do you get in this category? What do you have to do in your role to deserve OWD?

@OP It’s easy. Just do the OWD chant morning, noon, and night:
“OWD, OWD, hear my plea,
OWD was meant for me.
Morning, noon, and dinner too,
OWD, I summon you!
By notebook, spreadsheet, Teams, and flame,
Grant OWD to __ [insert name]!”
Repeat until management feels a disturbance in the Force.
Luck. It is a random event. No logic applies.
For most people that I have seen to be OWD, they were very political salespeople. They are always finding a way to get in the spotlight in front of the LT with polished powerpoint presentations of work they didn't ideate or do themselves, but was given the opportunity to lead a team. Most of those opportunites were projects with high visibility, value and chance of success. All 3 are a must for a project to succeed. Many early stage ideas that turn into projects have a very low likelyhood of success. So the OWDs are separated by their ability to gaslight the LT into thinking that what they have done is creating much more value than it actually is. More than likely OWDs just baseline their projects from what other companies have implemented successfullly and have already published papers about it. XOM has rarely invented anything recently. They have settled on let's use what has already been succesful elsewhere.
@OP always agree with your boss, never ever question him/her. Be a yes man.
Nah, point is the demographic described has asserted their place globally over the last 500 years that’s why they lead. It’s not accident. It’s human nature.
@hm Women don't speak English in US?
@hh it’s the same reason we speak English.
@ay So can you explain why majority of C-levels and many other executives are white male (not sure about their s-xual orientation)?
It takes about 28” of Hg.
@b8, be careful about seeking attention outside your team. It cuts both ways. The snakes on other teams are always looking for tie points to claim their people are better than the outsider that they have secret knowledge of. It’s exceedingly difficult for your supervisor to defend you against such ranking attacks if nobody else in the room knows your work. Ranking dynamics are ruthless.
What I’ve seen in IT. Be in a location no one I mean no one wants to be at. Another group be the SME of that small and not so knowledgeable group. Have sups that aren’t that engaged or really looking out for themselves .My 3rd example is a guy in a dead area. Couldn’t tell you if I’ve seen him make an impact but he made from
Contractor to regular. His area is dead. Has to travel but somehow goes out of country to pad the pds. This one amazing on LT sees and gets from this guy. The group though is corrupt from the head down. That’s why a lot of the people have changed lately. But who knows how the new LT will look at this.
@ac yet you can't spell. So impressed with you.
@ac These guidelines only make sense in companies people really work. At XOM, people’s actual job is spying on each other and trying to throw someone under the bus just to survive another cycle.
@ca I am sure that you are an expert in being assessed NSI.
@ac that’s how you get NSI
@ay There’s a snake on our team who exploits the fact that our manager isn’t technical. Every cycle he “mentors” a handful of people, and somehow at least one of them ends up PIPed out. Meanwhile he’s been rated OWD for the past three cycles since I joined the team. FYI he is old white male and people he targeted all were young, female and not white.
Sell your soul. Obtain the proper Sponsorship.
And being in the right demographic is a plus.
@bn I dont need them, but I could afford them. I am very well compensated in cash and RSU.
@ac I’m sure you have a golden pair of knee pads. Lol
Be political and build a perception. Reality is meaningless.
The requirements for any category cannot be defined. It is relative and based on perception not anything you actually did. So the answer is you have to create the perception that you are OWD.
Reaching beyond your immediate role to positively influence the greater organization.
Often times, you have to be doing a great job that extends outside your team as well as inside your team. When supervisors in parallel work groups have also seen your great work, they can support your relative assessment as OWD.
@ac liar
Extreme a** kissing
Selling out a coworker or two
Not a straight white male
Agree with every stupid idea that your boss or the corporation comes up with
Try to join as many meaningless clubs as possible
Work hard, work smart, show initiative and ownership. I have benn OWD for the last 4 years.
