Thread regarding VISA Inc. layoffs

Like Watching Paint Dry

Wow that PPD townhall was my first time watching Harmeet speak. My god, talk about monotonous, boring and uninspiring.

Seriously when people ask questions like how will people who lost their skip level or direct managers be fairly assessed on their work this year, the response shouldn't be a plain "yes they will be assessed for their work throughout the year". Duh, people are seeking clarity on the HOW, for goodness sake. Talk about how you already drew up the relationship graph of people remaining in the org, how you guys took stock of how the entire ecosystem of projects fit together, how teams are going to be assigned under new leaders who are genuinely excited at what they have to provide.

What's the point of these townhalls if you're going to be as vague and sombre as possible? When people ask questions about motivation, you don't just tell them to sit with their feelings for this week and look forward to the future. Tell us what exactly we should look forward to, and if layoffs are done for the foreseeable future, then use that to motivate remaining workers. Give people a carrot or something! When people asked if alternatives were considered, talk about how existing employee benefits cuts were considered, whether costs regarding AI models (why are there 80 available models btw) could be cut, whether this was made accounting for that crazy phase of token maxxing, will leaders personally taken salary cuts / pay increases this year during such a "sad and difficult time" as they claim.

Do these people even know how to motivate or show empathy at all? Have they been in genuine leadership positions outside of the corporate world where you actually have to inspire to get people to follow? In the military you have servant leadership (personal sacrifice) at the core, on sports teams captains are expected to display leadership by example, these people have no idea what any of these concepts mean!

They're genuinely soulless puppets, you can see it in their eyes, Harmeet, Rajat and whoever that HR minion brought up to speak during the townhall was. Actively applying for other roles right now, whatever culture Al Kelly instilled is completely gone.

@j8 the thing is it's not just a few people. I also didn't mention every single Indian in the world was like this? I am merely stating that so many of the ones I work with have horrible work dynamics. Constantly talking for the sake of talking, overhyping very basic "achievements", fighting to take credit, complaining to higher ups behind our backs instead of bringing it up directly during meetings, name dropping, establishing dominance over the repo when it's supposed to be a collaborative effort. Sounds like Indian culture to you?

Well, I can give an example from my department in Visa. We have multiple trams working on one project, people form India, Germany and Poland.

We had multiple situations when in our repo guys from India created PRs with few thousands LOC. Each time we left 100+ comments on the PR. No other people do this, this is repeated situation - also later they approve theirs PR eachother, ignore our comments and merge.

I asked this on our department all hands (Mark Kekicheff's org) "how can we recognise senior developers who spend days on reviewing PRs and leaving 100+ comments. They get zero recognition, while guys who spam gen AI PRs are constantly recognised in emails communication)".
(The issue was that we spent days on reviewing those bad PRs, and got no recognition at all, while Indian guys who spammed those gen AI PR were praised in official emails and got uplift points form senior management (and this stupid corporate visibility)).

So, on the all hands we got no answer, just vague 10 minutes monologue about nothing , just phases like we have to take ownership, focus on outcomes, we are one team, etc.

@basically everyone but OP, STOP the damned racism. It is absolutely racism to generalize that your negative experience with a few people can be assumed of anyone who you think looks like them. You can’t complain about a toxic work culture and then willingly and intentionally make it even more toxic. Get your head out of your a-s and contribute meaningfully to the conversation of the failure of leadership or GTFO this forum.

@OP absolutely fantastic post. You got to the crux of the issue with these “ToWN hALlS.” They are purely a farce. They put on the show of transparency by “answering” any question that is highly upvoted, but they never say anything of ANY substance, but they love it because it appears like transparency when in actuality they’re just dancing around flouncing their vapid, inconsequential answers. Everyone in the C-suite does it, ESPECIALLY Ryan and Rajat.
We need a way to show the execs the consequences of their sh---y leadership.

@g2 capitalism? More like nepotism. It's not racism to say your experience with Indians has su-ked btw. Racism is if I'm calling for violence against them, not if I'm sharing about my lived experience

I want to call out the subtle and overt racism from respondents towards all the Indian/Asian/foreigner work visa - you’re a victim of capitalism and not because of H1B

Damn my fellow Visa colleagues are utter savages. When Rajat spoke about pleasing shareholders all I could imagine was him bent over for Larry Fink (CEO of Blackrock) 😂

@a8 The key to advance at V to the top is to come from unknown universities. Please take note of this for next career advancement.

Well thats what you get when you have people who have never worked at any other top companies running the show.

What a joke that his education is from Punjab Engineering College and Indian Institute of Management. What kind of shithole unknown universities are these? As Mourinho says, this guy is a perfect example of "specialist in failure".
