Layoffs for folks not coming into the office

When layoffs happen, higher up managers are going to be looking at the folks that have yet to return to the office. Employees are ratting out managers who don’t make their employees come back into the office. The morale is nonexistent and the employees who have been coming in for years are fed up.

Teams check location every 5 minutes now so it’s cooked

Cronyism at finest! BB&T made their people move then laid them off and replaced them with (Wells) folks that aren’t anywhere near an office. #Teamwork 5 days in the office is a joke. It’s “managers discretion, if the managers aren’t in, how can they tell their team it’s mandatory.

@1dg termination specifically for not adhering to the in office expectation? I highly doubt it.

@15g not true. I know someone that got the email detailing termination date.

@ra This would be great if we didn’t have micro managers and ones that ‘follow the rules’. Our manager makes us come in 5 days a week (even though she works from home) and some other managers under our same umbrella allows their employees to come in and leave at lunch. How is that fair? What do you think that does for morale??

As they should! It’s not fair for people who have to be there everyday.

The funny thing @OP is most of the folks I work with/engage with are either 1) fully remote or 2) come in-office as needed (hybrid basically). They tend to be some of the more autonomous, decent work ethic employees. The 5-day in crew barely get anything done. Not saying this is the case for all teams, but if RIFs target remote things are going to get worse. How about we just all be adults and find the best set up that allows each person to perform at their best - location should not matter. Butts in seats do NOT equate to quality results

@ja My resume is always up to date. Why wouldn’t it be?

Will they fire me for not coming into the office? Highly unlikely.

Could they put me on a PIP? Maybe.

But I know my worth. I consistently get my work done and have earned “Exceeds Expectations” every year I’ve been here. My performance speaks for itself, and if that ever stops mattering, my resume is already ready.

They need to get all the newly hired leadership in Technology from Wells Fargo to relocate to a city with a Truist office. Every one of the leaders we bring in from Wells is remote even though our policy states new hires need to be in the office. If not can we lay them off??? They’re all terrible toxic leaders anyway.

It’s no layoff, it would be fired for cause and no severance.

I go into the office as required and do 60% less work than during full time remote so it seems pretty fair for me.

Big sad. I didn't mind coming in until a monster took over the department last year where I wish they would be working remote all the time or allowed us to.

The best days in the office was when hardly anyone was in the office. It was amazing. I cannot imagine how it is now when a good portion have returned.

Leadership just su-ks.

Ha, if it's acrually a layoff they'd then be rewarding them for never going in. Many people want the severance.

@OP

Keep telling yourself that, as you continue to trundle on in to the office like an obedient little bootlicker. 🤣
