Thread regarding CDW layoffs

The six-month lesson

I lasted just over six months at CDW. The red flags were there from the start, from disrespectful culture, to no innovation, to managers who couldn't manage. I stopped caring how it would look on my resume. I needed out. More power to the people who can handle this place, but that's not me.

Exactly

Things were great before Leahy. Even in the first few years of CL, things were fine as the Covid bump pushed sales and covered for her.
Once that artificial buying event was over....the cracks could then be seen and her and her Executive Teams incompetence took over.

CL pushed out the real leadership that might've pushed back only to surround herself with a bunch of "yes" people just going with her flow and ruining everything they touch since they now have power.

I quit at the peak/top or my sales career and I'm in my 40's. Not looking for another job or company to waste my years on Earth.

Severance is a joke at CDW. 5% employee stock discount when stock is almost 50% down. "Unlimited PTO" ...what a crock of sh-t (can I take a 5 year vacation since its "unlimited"). The 401k match is garbage as well. The worker bees struggle but do all the work but the queen bee is making $15-20 mill a year to ruin a $20 billion company.

She should be class action sued for breach of fudiciary duty.

CDW was good - I was there 10 years. Then sometime after the new CEO (CL) things went downhill - everything from the Salesforce integration and Sirius bumble-f acquisition was horrible. Managed Services was a joke -- and now someone mentioned that the SVP for Managed Services was cut after only 6 months.

It hurt about 3 years ago that I was laid off along with a lot of my teammates and colleagues - it was the first of a big round of cuts and thereafter they've been laying off people like 2x a year like clockwork ever since. After we were laid - a number of folks left behind were thinking Oh good riddance - CDW trimmed the underperformers. Those same folks eventually got a taste of their own medicine. CDW many great performers over the past 3 years. I made the President's Club.

Looking back - so glad CDW cut me. Oh for sure it was much better being cut 3 years ago versus the much tougher job market now.

Probably a great career move to leave after 6 months if you are at the start or middle of your career. I definitely would not have left my position with an industry leader to come here 6 years ago knowing what I now know. My CDW hiring manager (to her credit) told me CDW was about to start a transformation 6 years ago. Transformation is a slippery slope especially when leadership has no clue what that looks like. For me, the move to CDW was (in theory) an opportunity to down shift, make a difference, get paid with benefits until retirement. Unfortunately, it is too late for me and others I know who came to CDW late in their careers. We're just doing the work, and counting the months/weeks/days/seconds. Others that I know are younger than me have plans to retire very soon. I think some are looking for CDW to offer a worthwhile package....good luck with that! Nobody wants to be here. If you are young and starting out in your career now is the time to get out and work for someone who values you, and can develop you. Good luck. Just my two cents.....

Only 6 months? You don’t know pain.

@bg
My hate for leadership has grown equally or more over this same timeframe as the whole company is infected and in decline.

It's like my hatred is a fire and they aren't smart enough to stop dumping gas on it.

Wonder how many of my fellow coworkers have actual hate for the people responsible for making our place of livelihood trash just like Leahy's marriage.

We're currently installing mentally handicapped individuals into Director and VP ropes. I got lucky enough to have the mangled hand director that thinks he's better than his team but he doesn't actually do any real work.

We put people into roles that were bottom feeders. Surprised we haven't picked a b-m off the streets to be a director or VP to save some money.

It was not like this 5-6 years ago, even better 10 years ago

I saw the red flags in the damn interview. I needed a job, so I ignored my gut and took it anyway. Big mistake. It just kept going downhill from there. Dysfunction, egos, lousy management and way too much corporate bullsh-t. Sometimes the red flags really are the warning label.
