Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Age Discrimination

Will this round bring tsunami of law suits. Any remaining US citizen will get kicked out. This is it.

Getting rid of even one US citizen will help the org meet the 10% cost reduction since most 90% of the teams exist in India.

Age Discrimination is an unavoidable reality. We are all just supposed to fade away until our passing to the great Company in the sky.

No one, from the latest college hire to LE himself will live and work at Oracle forever! We will all walk this road. If you think the guys in the 50's and 60's are holding you back, remember, your turn is inevitably coming! You will reap what you sow!

@OP
Maybe run your concerns by LE? I mean, it sounds like you may be more in touch with what's going on than he is. After all, he is over 60 too.

@j8 Can confirm. I'm a 50+ engineer working on an AI project in FA and was cut in April. The ADEA document in the severance packet shows that a disproportionate amount of the layoffs were people who are 45+.

I'm about to begin a new job at a startup who recognizes that experience matters. Beats working for management that only cares about chasing promotions.

@j8 During my RIF there were people, according to the supplied list, that were in their mid 70's who were let go. Mostly ICs

There is 100% an age discrimination component. All you have to do is look at the last layoff and the stats. Ages 50+ with higher salaries were targeted and cut -at the very least they represented a disproportionate deviation. It's there in black and white - the numbers prove it. How do I know - I'm 60+ was in the last Oracle RIF and simply did the math. Considered legal recourse - then the only one that really makes anything is the lawyer.

@OP what does any of your incoherent rambling have to do with age discrimination? Consider cutting back on the sauce.

@c1 [Of course, not all, but...] Ask them directly on their face and they will tell you the truth because they no longer care about performing.

I have worked with people who were in their 50s/60s/70s and they sharper than anyone else. Many such people get outnumbered and are ignored by managers who do not know what to do with them.

Those in their 50s and 60s don't have responsibilities or interest in partying. They can work much longer and they already know what doesn't work, so they can be more efficient. They provide ready ROI for low cost. You have to work with A-players to know this.

@c1 We are selling product, not playing basketball. Intelligence and experience are more important than stamina.

@c1 high energy is a not an asset if you don't know what you are doing, you just churn out more cr-p and cause more damage

If you are in your 50s or 60s, can you still work with the same energy as a 21‑yo freshman?
Of course not.
That's not age discrimination, just retire it.
