WF resign notice period

Recently I read that for a new hire they mandate 60 days of notice period to leave with the wording under fullest extent of law. Is it true that you can’t leave without 60 days’ notice? Do they pursue it legally? I also read they have arbitration so in that case how it can be enforced legally?

Need a good job at Cisco?

Forget engineering and join legal. It's dynamic and creative, they are busy but well compensated. Cisco has developed this competency like no other company and this tells you a lot about the direction of the company - extract and protect is the mantra nowadays. Lawyers are not better than engineers, but here at Cisco they can thrive just because that's the game nowadays.

Severance Question: 1 month vs. 2 weeks per year of service

I was looking through my new employee paperwork from when I started at Wells many moons ago, and at that time the company policy was 1 month of severance for every year of service. Sometime in 2017, the policy apparently changed to just 2 weeks per year.

My questions are: Can the company legally change a severance policy like that? Did employees have to sign something acknowledging the change?

I vaguely remember seeing something about this in the OWBPA or on Teamworks before I was laid off. I’m especially wondering whether older, long-tenured employees have any recourse.

Please only weigh in if you actually know the answer or have relevant experience. The snarky remarks are getting old. Thanks!

My Manager rated me 'needs improvements, after giving me additional work due to layoffs.

My Manager rated me 'needs improvement' and provided some comments after giving me additional work due to allocating more work after laying off a colleague year back. I used to have good ratings during previous 6 years with successful meet expectations.
Are these managers not trained, or what legal advice can I take or who should I talk to? EU employee.

Novo Nordisk Faces Multiple Challenges

The pharmaceutical giant is embroiled in a legal dispute with rival Eli Lilly over weight-loss dr-g advertising. Simultaneously, a new safety warning regarding optic nerve stroke has been added to the prescribing information for its semaglutide-based dr-gs. These issues compound recent disappointing trial results and significant workforce reductions. The company is also facing regulatory scrutiny at a manufacturing facility in Indiana. Despite these headwinds, Novo Nordisk has partnered with Amazon Web Services to enhance its digital capabilities.

Fired quant sues BNY Mellon, alleging age and disability bias

A quantitative analyst who spent more than two decades at BNY Mellon says the bank pushed him out because he was 58 and disabled.

The former vice president filed suit against The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation in Manhattan federal court on August 7, 2026, alleging that his 2023 termination violated federal age and disability law. According to the complaint, the case brings claims under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The filing says the worker joined the bank in August 2001 as a senior quantitative analyst at age 36 and rose to vice president on the Markets Quantitative team. He contracted polio as a child, the complaint says, and has right-leg atrophy that limits his ability to stand for long stretches, climb stairs, and cross uneven ground, requiring him to walk with a cane. According to the filing, he disclosed the condition to a senior risk executive in late 2002 and signed a written agreement to work from home two days a week.

That arrangement loosened over time, the complaint says. It states that a later manager verbally approved one remote day a week, and that the worker moved to full-time remote work when the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The dispute, as the complaint tells it, began with the bank's return-to-office push. In early 2022, according to the filing, staff were told to come back in person. The worker - then 57 - asked to work from home four days a week. The complaint alleges his supervisor turned him down because it would be "too much trouble" for the bank, despite his having handled the full role remotely throughout the pandemic.

The request resurfaced, the filing says. After several colleagues resigned in early 2022, the worker took on new duties and, according to the complaint, received a retention bonus that April. When he asked again for four remote days, the complaint says, the supervisor agreed and told him no formal accommodation paperwork was necessary.

The complaint then lays out a run of setbacks. It says the worker was told he was not eligible for a promotion because the candidates had already been chosen. It says the bank brought two people in their early thirties onto the New York Markets team in October 2022. And it alleges that when the bank expanded into securities lending and financing, the worker offered to help but was passed over.

The bank ended his employment in 2023, according to the complaint, along with another worker over 40. The filing alleges the bank then hired younger, non-disabled replacements who did not need a remote-work accommodation.

Canadian severance

If you were laid off from Oracle in Ontario during the recent rounds: does anyone have recommendations for a good employment lawyer?

I’ve heard former colleagues are getting lowballed on their packages, so I want to get a professional review before signing anything.

Oracle is brutal -> I know a IC who just got laid off from Dell with 20+ years was offered 55 weeks and is still negotiating more with a lawyer, so I suspect there's room to push back.

Can we file a Class Action Lawsuit against EchoStar?

Is there an avenue to file a class action lawsuit against EchoStar on behalf of all the affected since 2025? Something Charlie wouldn’t expect would be a smoking g-n, and hit him where it hurts: the spectrum money he has stashed?

Like, some ominous but effective case. Example: in this film The Firm, the whistleblower simply filed “wire fraud” as the case.

Let’s start the talk here. I believe these are the types of billionaires that are meant to fall from the sky. Charlie is a mean, egomaniacal person who enjoys rising above while watching people below him suffer.

Let’s align and discuss possibilities here.

Retiring vs Laid off?

Why do some announce they are retiring but you can tell it seems forced? Does upper leadership tell these people they are being laid off and then lie to everyone about the real reason? I have seen this in at least 4 people in the last year. At first I thought confidence but it doesn’t make sense, especially with departure date. Anyone have insight? How is it legal to let someone say they are retiring when they are really being laid off?

CWA Canada is criticizing Microsoft's recent layoffs at Bethesda Game Studios Montreal. Approximately a dozen union members were terminated in a brief video call, denied the opportunity to ask questions. These employees will receive pay for eight weeks while staying home. This incident is part of a larger wave of 3,200 job cuts across Xbox. The union plans to pursue legal and contractual actions to defend its members.

NJ laid off employees - the WARN Act requires you get 90 days' notice if >50 laid off

This was mentioned obliquely in other posts, but I wanted to get it into the title of this post. The NJ WARN Act requires that certain employers (including Verizon) provide 90 days' notice of layoffs if the company is laying off 50 people or more. If Vz Wireless is laying off 50 or more in NJ, and you are a New Jersey employee laid off on June 16 and were told your last day is in August, they are in violation of the law and they have to give you until September 14 which is 90 days from June 16th.

Judge Denies Meta Workers' Layoff Halt Bid

A U.S. judge has refused to stop Meta Platforms from proceeding with layoffs affecting 26 employees. These workers claim the company used AI tools to unfairly target them for job cuts due to disabilities or medical leave. The judge stated the employees did not demonstrate irreparable harm to warrant an emergency injunction. Meta denies wrongdoing and asserts human decision-making in the layoff process. The company is in the midst of reducing its global workforce by approximately 10%.
