any layoff plan this year?
Been here almost 6years. But the last 4years have been really bad due to toxic manager/work environment in general.
Especially, with the rto mandate when my own manager works rto every Friday and some of my co workers have not been in the office for weeks.
I have been thinking of quitting. But if there's a plan for another lay off, I'll stick around til it happens for severance + unemployment.
Any hints?
Not comply with RTO and get layoff package?
Would that work to not comply with new RTO and drag it out as long as possible till they terminate me or lay me off. Would this set me up for a possible layoff package and I could get unemployment benefits?
Unemployment
After 27 years with ExxonMobil I was given NSI this cycle. I was told on Tuesday of this week. I am fortunately retirement eligible, but was hoping to work for a couple of more years. I’m reaching out to understand how I would be able to claim unemployment after all is said and done. I was leaning toward retirement (as my manager is horrendous and I don’t think I would pass a PIP) and planning to defer my pension as I am not yet 60 and was betting on interest rates going down in the next few years. If I “retire” and defer the pension, would I still be able to claim unemployment? From my research, I believe I could do so, but want input from those that have been through it. If I do claim unemployment, will ExxonMobil fight me on it? Will it affect any other benefits such as retiree medical? Do I have to go through the PIP (and fail) to be able to claim? Any other guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Unemployment Claims Tick Up Slightly
Initial jobless claims saw a modest increase last week, reaching 209,000. Despite this rise, the overall rate of layoffs continues to be historically low. This suggests a resilient labor market overall. The figures indicate a slight uptick rather than a significant downturn. The trend remains within a healthy range.

What does that look like? Can you volunteer to be on it? Can you get unemployment afterwards?
Washington State Sees Significant Job Losses
Nearly 12,000 jobs have been eliminated across Washington state in 2026, impacting 84 companies. Major technology and communications firms like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft are among those with the largest workforce reductions. The state's Employment Security Department tracks these layoffs through its WARN portal. Displaced workers may qualify for unemployment benefits and retraining programs. This trend highlights a challenging economic period for the state's workforce.

Oregon Jobless Rate Surges
Oregon's unemployment rate has significantly increased, now ranking as the third highest nationally. This rise began approximately three years ago, with the jobless rate hovering above 5% for the past year. Major layoffs at prominent companies like Intel, Nike, and OHSU, alongside weakness in construction and manufacturing, have impacted the state's economy. Unlike other western states, Oregon has experienced consistent year-over-year job losses since January. Employment in Multnomah County remains substantially below its 2019 peak.

Getting unemployment benefits after being laid off is a delayed process
Last time I was laid off I filed for unemployment benefits after with the State Labor Department office. After I filed my claim I received a confirmation email from labor department office. The email stated my former employer would be allowed to review my claim and could deny my claim if they wanted to. After I passed this check the labor department sent second email. They asked if my last paycheck included any unused sick or vacation leave? The email said this would also be verified with my former employer. In my case I had about three months of unused sick and vacation time paid in my last pay check. But it was not for the 3 months. My former employer stated they had a rule where you are paid up to a certain number of hours, the rest you lose. So Department of labor said in third email I could not begin to receive unemployment benefits until the number of hours of sick and vacation time my former employer paid me had past. So I think I received about 1.2 of the three months of unused vacation and sick leave. Labor department told me I would not begin to receive unemployment benefits unemployment benefits until 2 months after I filed my claim. I only had 5 years at my former employer. If I recall correctly the rule was one week of unemployment benefits for every year you worked would be paid to you. So after my unemployment benefits started 2 months after I filed my claim, they ended in 5 weeks. It took me 8 months to find news job that pays me 20% lower than my previous job did. If you get laid off start looking for new job an accept any job you are offered including digging ditches, construction work of posting on Only Fans if you are hot enough
If you lost your job.
If you lost your job today and rode out your unemployment where would you be or where would you go afterwards and make what you make at T? So many people post how they hate their jobs but they are still working for T and complaining with every breath they take.

Jobless Claims Tick Up Slightly
Americans filing for unemployment benefits saw a modest increase last week, though overall layoff numbers remain historically low. The Labor Department reported a rise of 9,000 new claims, bringing the total to 197,000 for the week ending July 25. This figure, while higher than the previous week, is still near a fifty-year low. The data suggests a stable labor market despite minor fluctuations. The number of continuing claims also saw a slight increase.

Are we eligible for unemployment benefits if we took the VSP in Texas?
I feel like we could argue that layoffs were gonna happen anyway- but anyone know?
Tennessee Job Market Faces Increased Competition
Tennessee's job growth has significantly decelerated, leading to a more competitive environment for individuals seeking employment. This slowdown presents new challenges for the state's workforce. Economists are observing this trend closely. The current economic climate suggests a shift in the labor landscape. Job seekers may need to adapt their strategies in response.

South Carolina Unemployment Benefits Face Scrutiny
Historic lows in national unemployment claims signal a strong job market, but South Carolinians are concerned about accessing benefits. The U.S. Labor Department reported the lowest number of unemployment insurance claims since 1969. However, strict state regulations and payment caps may be hindering successful claims. South Carolina's weekly benefit range of $42 to $350 falls significantly below the national average of $489. The state also limits benefit duration to 20 weeks or less, depending on unemployment rates.

Michigan Unemployment Law Updates
New regulations in Michigan have increased the weekly job search requirements for individuals receiving unemployment benefits. Claimants must now complete three work search activities per week to maintain eligibility. The updated laws also provide expanded protections for domestic violence survivors who leave their jobs due to abuse. Additionally, the Work Share program is enhanced to help employers avoid layoffs by reducing hours and supplementing wages. These changes aim to support both job seekers and employers in the state.

AI Threatens Outdated Jobless Aid
America's existing layoff safety nets, including unemployment insurance and outplacement services, are ill-equipped for AI-driven job displacement. These systems were designed for a different economic era with cyclical, blue-collar layoffs and shorter unemployment periods. Current unemployment insurance trust funds are underfunded, and outplacement services often lack accountability for actual job placement or skill development. Federal reemployment programs also de-prioritize mid-career professionals, leaving them underserved. HR leaders must proactively adapt these systems to support workers through the coming economic shifts.

Job Fair Aids Spirit Airlines Staff
A job fair was held in Orange County to assist former Spirit Airlines employees and other job seekers. The event was organized by CareerSource Central Florida and Orange County Commissioner Nicole Wilson. It was initially intended for displaced Spirit employees but was later opened to anyone seeking employment. The fair provided a platform for attendees to connect with potential employers and exchange resumes. This initiative aimed to help individuals regain stability after sudden job losses.

New Jersey Sees Significant July Job Losses
New Jersey experienced a surge in layoffs during July, with over 2,400 positions eliminated. This brings the total job cuts in the state for 2026 to nearly 12,000. The current unemployment rate in New Jersey stands at 4.5 percent. Major companies like Samsung, Novartis, Mars Wrigley, and Verizon contributed significantly to these July layoffs. These reductions are occurring amidst broader economic pressures affecting the state.

Severance and Unemployment question
Was recently laid-off (displaced) from the Chandler site. I am getting a severance and paid out for PTO and two months of paid non-working time. At what point should I contact AZ Unemployment office? From what I can tell, I won’t qualify for unemployment benefits while getting severance. Is this true? I don’t want to sc--w myself out of the little bit of unemployment AZ offers as every little bit helps, but the AZ DES website is very confusing and impossible to get a live rep.
Ny unemployment
Anyone rif'd in the past collect unemployment? Do you file on your last day worked and get it after the 1 week waiting period or do you have to apply after your severance weeks are over? People with personal experience please reply.
What's the better option?
If I wait to be laid off, I'll get severance and unemployment (allowed in my state), but I'll be competing with everyone else who got cut for very few available jobs. If I quit, I get nothing but I can have a new job ready before I leave so there is no uncertainty. Neither option is ideal. I'm sure others have been mulling this over as well, I'm curious what you've decided to do.

Question about severance
Does anyone know or from last round know this. If you take the severance, for example if I get paid out for 20 weeks, do I still qualify for six months unemployment or will it be six months minus the 20 weeks that Verizon paid me severance for?
Hello from a December layoff
Hello to my fellow 'soon to be ex' V-Teamers. I was laid off in Dec 2025 with a role of Sr. Technical Project Manager (6V). Unfortunately, with all of the lay offs, in VZ and elsewhere, finding a new job has been next to impossible. Both my severance and pitifully small unemployment have both been exhausted. The LHH service they set up for us did not help me in the slightest. I say this not to scare you, well, maybe a little, but to tell you you need to set reasonable expectations. You are most likely going to be in this for the long haul. For those left behind, continue to create as much of a nest egg as you can because you are most likely going to need in when the next round of lay offs happen.
Good luck and God Bless.
I was laid off in December. If you're divested to Victra, be careful.
Victra will make all kinds of promises to you that everything will be the same or better than it was, but they're full of bullsh-t. If your store is bought by them, you're better off taking the severance and going on unemployment
Low Net Adds = More Rifs
It's that simple, the current work force is broken. Good luck on the unemployment line.
Unemployment after termination
I was terminated after failing PIP on July 1.
Getting paid for another 30 days. When do I file for unemployment?
After paycheck stops or immediately?
New Jersey Economy Faces Slowdown
A Rutgers University report forecasts sluggish economic growth for New Jersey over the next two years, predicting a rate below the national average. The state's job market is expected to weaken, with employment growth projected to slow significantly in 2026. While education and health services have driven recent job gains, other sectors have experienced declines. Population growth, largely fueled by international migration, is also anticipated to decrease. The report suggests New Jersey's unemployment rate will remain higher than the national figure.

Conduent Lays Off Six Remote Workers in Wisconsin
Only one company reported layoffs in Wisconsin during June. Conduent, a business service provider, laid off six remote workers. The state Department of Workforce Development received this notice on June 26. This number is significantly lower than May's reported layoffs. Wisconsin's unemployment rate also decreased slightly in May.

Unemployment Fear Shifts to Wealthier Americans
Unemployment fears are now concentrated among educated, higher-income Americans. This marks a significant shift from historical patterns. The New York Fed's Survey of Consumer Expectations tracks this trend. Their anxiety currently outpaces actual white-collar layoff rates. Automation and post-pandemic hiring corrections contribute to this growing concern.

Unemployment
I confirmed with someone high up that employees who accept the VSP will be listed as “voluntary quit” and not laid off. You should check with your state unemployment department to find out if you will qualify or not. As a part of the VSP, you also may be required to sign a document saying you forfeit unemployment by accepting the severance. I’d check with an employment lawyer though.
Phoenix Pharmacy Company CAPS Cuts 116 Jobs
Phoenix-based Central Admixture Pharmacy Services announced 116 layoffs. The pharmaceutical company filed a WARN notice on June 25. CAPS is the nation's largest network of outsourcing admixture pharmacies. These layoffs contribute to a weakening Arizona job market. The state's unemployment rate rose to 4.8% in May.
