Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

@ry they are not exactly the same but they are quite similar the first time you get NSI. Have you gone thru this?
I just got NSI - worked for Imperial 30+ years - and was given the choice of PIP or PIL (3 months lump sum salary) and then retire or else no PIP and just retire in three months. I have a colleague that also got NSI in Canada and got exactly the same offer.

If you fail NSI in US, you get nothing, whereas in Canada Imperial will give you up to 18 months severance (typically employees with 25+ years service can get up to 24 months by retaining a lawyer). Second time you get NSI you are severed, whether you are in Canada or US. In Canada you get up to 18 months salary (can get up to 24 months with lawyer). In US, for second NSI, you get choice of PIL (3 months salary) or retire in 3 months.
Also, PIP is now mandatory in both Canada and US for first NSI and severance is mandatory in both countries for second NSI. Difference is severance payment for failed PIP or second NSI is much higher in Canada.

@qw this is incorrect, Canada pip/PIL process is not the same as US.

@mr the first time you get NSI, you don’t get severed. You get a choice of PIP or PIL. PIL is only three months salary. Which means you have to go through with PIP. If they make it easy to pass you, you have to continue working and suffering until such a time as you are severed either thru business transformation or another NSI. That could take 1-2 years which is a lot of time to sacrifice your sanity in this place.

@bn what do you mean ‘some things are more important than severance’ you get the same severance whether you are transformed or PIP’d.

For anyone with an end date that thinks it's smooth sailing til your end date, watch out. Things are getting progressively worse by the way, and the fickle ranking and PIP processes will grind you down until the end.

Thankfully there are many better places to work, so keep looking ahead!

Sad state of affairs for what it used to be a great company to work for.
Over my 23 years at site I’ve witnessed the slow decline -faster over the last two years-, and all the “YES” managers that played along.

No self respect, no integrity, no ethics, no honesty…..no shame.

You all know who you are.

Best of luck to all the good workers left at imperial. Don’t let this company take your integrity.

Amen

Got NSI with choice of PIP or PIL. Termination only slated for Q4 2027 but seriously considering PIL because while it’s a very light offer, it’s a toxic workplace and hope to find something better. I am eligible for 18 months severance but some things are more important than $$.
It seems that they are taking the opportunity to put a lot of folks into NSI that are slated for severance. Easy way to meet the NSI “quotas”.
I only wish it was my second NSI as that would be immediate termination and then immediate severance.
This place has become unbearable.
