Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Understaffed and underpaid

It’s absolutely ridiculous that the phone queues have had a red alert almost daily for months now. Send another email about how we are the best place to work based off bogus surveys and more emails about record breaking profits while merit increase you’re lucky to see 2%. He-l they used to give us Amazon and door dash cards. Now it’s nothing .

Someone crop dusted me today. I don’t know who it was but I do remember one or two specific people that walked by soon after. The crop dusting has to stop.

@qs You’d want me to be paid less no matter how much I’m making, that’s my point. If you ever actually loved this company you’d admit it’s dying if not dead already, and you don’t have to be Warren Buffet to know why.

Get back to work slave!

Who here cares if you suffer or not? Just keep your head down. Don’t say anything don’t ask for anything. You’re lucky to have a job.

@qp Astounding that you work in financial services yet are absolutely clueless when it comes to matter of economics. I don't know how much they pay you but if it's more than nothing, it's too much. I am frankly embarassed to have the company I love represented by someone like you.

@p6 corporate America is in a race to the bottom. When your business model is contingent on constant growth and there’s nothing left not bolted down you can debase for profit, the haves start to worry about the have nots that always outnumber them. Tale as old as time. They’ll complain of the lazy not picking up the slack they themselves created, all the while opening the drawer to find the bolt extractor. And it’s all not only legal, but in the minds of many economists completely moral!

And hasn’t our country become better now that we’ve prioritized nothing but short-term profit? One of the highest offices in our land is charging $100,000 a month so that insiders can have access to tweets earlier than everyone else. We’ve successfully transitioned from a nation of shared identity and ideals into a ruthlessly sui-idal corporation with no regard for anything save shareholder profit. I could not be happier to raise my progeny in such an amazing place. This post brought to you by AT&T, use my offer code to get 10% off your next order!

@kr What an amazing positive attitude you have! I hope others will take your story to heart. It's real food for thought. I've been at Schwab almost 20 years and I can honestly say there is no company that cares as much about it's employees as Schwab. Maybe you won't get paid as much as you will at the JP Morgans and Goldman Sachses but what you will get is infinitely better. Not a just a place to work but a Schwamily!

@kk you’re right, why don’t I take part in the continued degradation of our country by investing my money towards Schwab, in the hopes a company that’s eliminating thousands of jobs and sending them to a third world nation makes just a bit more cash hollowing itself out for my profits. He-l, who WOULDN’T want to reward this kind of behavior, right? Because it doesn’t matter, you made a profit. Right?

You people could be convinced into bucketing water into a boat if someone overpaid enough convinced you it would turn a profit, then argue with the crew desperately trying to stop you for being brokies.

Why is everyone so down on Schwab? I am on my 3rd Schwoomerang and if I get laid off again, I will absolutely come back for a 4th. Not too many companies would hire you back in a new role only a few weeks after severing you. But Schwab does and has multiple times for me. They absolutely care about their employees even after having to make tough decisions. I may not make as much as I did 10 years ago but I got a great boss and a supportive team and a still decent wage that gives me and my family a good life.

@kn True but these kids would rather spend their money on labubus and Netflix instead of investing in the company that pays their rent and car loan puts clothes on their back and food in their mouth.I was a millionaire by age 50 thanks to key contributor awards and buying company stock.

@kk fer sure. between the stock perchase plan and the key contributer awards we get every year schwab gives us all plenny opportunitee to be owners and when you are an owner you better understand the desishens companies need to make, specially when you are relying on them to make the right ones. pluss the dividends you get as a result help supplement yer salree.

@kk this thought process is everything that’s wrong with America. The enshitifcation of every product and giving employees less and less for the profit of the stock holders.

"because the company they worked for decided torpedoeing their labor force was preferable for quarterly-profits".

Have you considered investing in the company stock purchase plan? I think that would give you a new perspective on the pursuit of quarterly profits.

@jt Geography???? Do you even work at this company? We have thousands of employees in India, that’s on the other side of the planet from New York dude, and almost the entire company worked remotely just fine during COVID. Can you at least produce excuses that sound cogent to the three people left still willing to give you the benefit of the doubt? Schwab ran a public survey just a few years ago that discovered over 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Have you been living in a gated community or something? Most Americans are terrified they will be homeless in a few months because the company they worked for decided torpedoeing their labor force was preferable for quarterly-profits.

This is an imbalanced relationship and has been for decades, how do you think any of this is remotely moral or ethical whatsoever? Why have no corporate executives had to produce real reasons as to why we should tolerate hollowing out our own nation’s labor so some organization that doesn’t care about anything other than maximizing their OWN profit can make a bit more money at our expense? This is wrong, and everyone’s always known it.

@j8 If it's one of the lowest paid firms in the industry then why haven't you gone to a better paying firm? Do you like being paid less so you can go online to tell everyone Schwab is sc--wing you over?

Have any of you dolts even considered geography? Most of the industry is based in NYC while Schwab has few people there and not many in San Fran anymore. If you are in Austin or Southlake you certainly aren't going to make what you would be making in NYC so comparing yourself to people mostly at NY firms is ridiculous. Your cost of living also won't be as high as it is for those people so it evens out. But you all want the lifestyle of a multi millionaire while working in the call center or in ops. That ain't reality. Budget your money better and invest in your professional development and maybe one day you can be one of those people like Rick that you criticize here for making so much more money than you.

It is so obvious that Schwab HR is in here, trying to repair the poor reputation that Schwab has in the industry.

Work at Schwab more than 5 years, and you have slim chances to go anywhere else. You worked on arcane technologies and were denied any forward-looking training. You are stuck!

@e1 “you are paid the market rate,” yes after wages have been suppressed for decades and hundreds of thousands of careers outsourced to China and India. Sorry prole, we needed more money. Oh you don’t like it? Why don’t you work at [other company laying off thousands after making record profits]? But I’m sure they’ll pay you the same. That is all you are worth, you realize.

Oh, and God forbid you’re some kid fresh out of college. The few entry-level positions that are left that weren’t farmed out are future AI fodder. And if you’re still here after all that, you’ll have some overpaid schlub in middle management cracking the whip and telling you your complaints are unreasonable, all the while believing they’re not just another peasant in a cubicle. Poetic.

@j4 it doesn’t have to be multiple people. If I wanted to waste my life I could upvote it back to parity, this site is based on cookies or local storage so anyone could up or downvote anything they want easily. Truly pathetic behavior, but it’s what I expect from those that enforce poor working conditions, lay off thousands, and then tell those leftover they should be thankful they have a job.

This country desperately needs a qualitative change to its corporate policy, and it needs it soon before it is too late.

@et You are the ideal Schwabbie. Submissive, not willing to take responsibility, and just doing as little as possible.

For some, it will work, for most they are up for a rude awakening when they get laid off from Schwab, and no one wants them as they have no transferrable skills.

Times are tough right now but they'll get better. True, Schwab may not be keeping up with inflation but sometimes you just have to cut back and spend less. In this economy, we should all be grateful that we have a job at all and we are especially lucky to be working for a company like Schwab.

The majority of responders are missing the point of the original post. The phone queue call takers are being inundated with calls and providing support in the trenches day after day. They’re your 911 for CS so instead of assuming the poster is an ivy leaguer or whining college grad try stepping into their shoes and answer call after call hours on end without respite and for barely living wage. Remember they’re picking up the phone for ignorant, aggressive folks like those of you destroying a valid point made on this forum. Those of you attacking your colleagues are the reason CS has an abysmal culture…you destroy each other, demoralize a person for having an opinion, and reduce the persons credibility. Perhaps it is you who should leave CS.

I don't know about the other locations but if you are in Austin you are not underpaid. I get calls all the time from recruiters about jobs at Kestra, DFA, Putnam and others and when they tell me about the salary it's always "up to x amount" and x amount is always much less than what Schwab is paying me to do a job with much less responsibility. If you think your pay is too low then you need to find a different job with a higher salary range. That other job will probably also be at Schwab because they are the only ones paying a decent salary as far as I can tell.

For those complaining Schwab is under paying you, why are you still here? I bet it's because you aren't being under paid. You are paid the market rate. If Schwab is paying you less than that, you need only go somewhere else that will pay you market or above. If you're instead staying put then you either can't get a higher paying job because you are already being paid what you're worth or you are volunteering to take a lower than market rate. In either case, you have have no basis to complain so STFU.

@cy Working at Schwab is not really is not really to your benefit to have on your resume. Recruiters question why you would work for a company that is known for underpaying workers and assume that it's something wrong with you. It is a Catch-22. You need to break out from Schwab and show that you have initiative, and that you are not a submissive loser.

@cy working your employees to the bone & understaffing them while giving them sh---y raises is a sign of a bad company. there are many reasons someone might stay in a bad job right now, like the sh---y economic , circumstances, etc. that doesn’t make what they are doing to their employees justifiable . Glad you have lived a privileged life and never had to stick out a sh---y job for a while.
