Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Bloomberg News seeking info on buyouts for a story

Hi all, I'm Ike Swetlitz, a health journalist with Bloomberg News. I cover health insurance, among other topics.

I've been reading a lot of these posts about the buyouts. I'm trying to learn more, for a story.

If you're interested in speaking with me, I'd be grateful if you could contact me at iswetlitz@bloomberg.net or 630-544-9414 (cell phone - Signal / call / text / etc). You can be anonymous -- I will NOT print your name unless you give me permission. You can also find my contact information on LinkedIn or send me a message there (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ikeswetlitz/)

I'm trying to learn more about how many jobs are being eliminated, and when the buyouts are actually happening (now vs next year).

Thank you!

Bloomberg articles exist behind a paywall...just like all of the other sc-mmy news organizations that limit access to information to only the richest id--ts

...or executives with access to unmonitored expense accounts.

@sk Taxes. Too many rifs and unemployment numbers get skewed which affects Elevance bottom line. Buyouts allow companies to reduce, replace offshore, taxes stay stable and virtue signal that they are compassionate.

The downside of a buyout is A) you aren't eligible for severance...the buyout is in lieu of a severance and could be less than what you are qualified for and B) you wouldn't eligible for unemployment since you voluntarily chose the buyout. That isn't a big deal if you have a job lined up (or if you get one soon after) but it can be if you are out of a job for an extended period of time.
Also, the the best of my knowledge, Elevance isn't offering a "buyout".

Why should this company do buyouts when you can RIF people. The story is, does data that is NOT supposed to be offshored getting offshored, or being accessed by offshore scammers. That's the story that needs attention.

A lot of the data is just junk so then it is safe no matter who has access to it.

@f2 amen- that is the real story how vulnerable customer data is with all the offshoring.

Instead of doing a story about buyouts that aren't happening, why don't you do a story on the number of people this company has laid off from their every month riffs for years? Or how many American jobs have been moved offshore? And whether those offshore jobs have access to data that they shouldn't?

Elevance no longer offers buyouts. They learned their lesson on that several years ago. They are just throwing Americans out of their jobs. Employees are not being given a choice about anything.
