Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Company laid off the engineers and now forcing techs doing the zero pen.

Company laid off a bunch of engineers , and now is forcing techs to do the zero pen jobs that fell to them. The union is so stupid , they didn’t even argue for a differential pay for its members. Company is saving millions making techs do the engineering work now. What does the union do besides sc--w over its members at every turn lol

Agreed. We "re-engineer" jobs daily because someone looked at google maps to design an overbuild or new development. Not because were getting extra pay or a bump...because it makes the job easier and gets people in service. Why send it back for and wait 3 months for corrections. The title engineer at the old phone company was always a misnomer that has followed to the new improved "phone" company.

Bogus and ambiguous post!!
there lots of different techs in different departments!
what techs are you referring to!?
and no technician can be forced to do anything not already in the contract, if they decide to do extra work its because they want to such as:
specials does site surveys which most techs enjoy doing instead of running 500 foot fiber drops......
C and E techs may reengineer a fiber job because its easier than having someone else not in the field doing it....
I and R doesn't really have much to do with engineering so once again which district are you referring to and what department has all these techs doing this work??!!

@ak

Actually, in the contract, it states that they ARE supposed to run it by them. They’re supposed to form a technology committee impacts entire centers and make a strategy for a path to keep those people employed. Unless they cleverly left that out over the last few contracts.

You should complain on your union forum and not here.

“ They let customer service call center jobs. Go out the window. Nobody ever did a darn thing to stop it or up skill the employees for better work“

It has always baffled me that so many Union folks think the corporation is somehow supposed to run everything by THEM. I’m not bashing the Union, truly. But how is it that you don’t realize that you have ZERO say in those decisions? Your input is neither required, nor desired.

Former represented employee here. Let me tell you how this works. You file grievances about it. Your union Stewart shows up. They raise a stink about it. And then they decide the outsource to work to some country overseas to people who have bad attitudes and then they decide you don’t have enough work to do and your team has to be cut too.

Seriously, it is time for dues paying members to hold their unions accountable. They let customer service call center jobs. Go out the window. Nobody ever did a darn thing to stop it or up skill the employees for better work. And now this is happening. It’s time to hold them accountable for the money that they take out of your paychecks and not using it to buy really expensive vehicles for themselves and houses for themselves.

Ohio has always had engineering work in the union contract. Top craft pay.
