Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Impact on CDW Education.

Can anybody give me a # on how many CDW Education employees were paid off in July? I work here and over the last week two that zip reached out to are no longer here (Ed. Ambassadors) and another is posting in LinkedIn that he has now retired. Who is left?

SVP of EDU needs to be on the same bus as the SVP of services that was canned.

They just move the loyalists around all the time to calm people down with them thinking they're getting actual change.

Lots of so called "leaders" at CDW are like this.

Useless figureheads in thier role because they kissed enough behind and said the right phrases/words along the way.

Look how the Director of Fin Serv (who even knew they had a director since the guy barely did anything ever) was replaced with another director that originated from FinServ who only ever sold as much as new/junior AM's. Full circle of garbage.

Musical chair of "leaders" that just collect and report data and numbers that gets generated by the actual real workers they're supposed to be in charge of.

What a joke.

Just move people around when the complaints get too numerous but never actually fix any underlying issues that people are asked about.

Now people get handed useless certificates like they're in grade school to show off on LinkedIn instead of bonuses and raises in comp.

That's exactly the attitude that is causing the stock to decline and stagnate. Guess you don't "follow" that concept.
30% decline from 5 years ago and almost 50% drop from the peak two years ago.
Earnings beats finally this year after 8 consecutive misses and even that isn't helped.

Q1 earnings....huge drop then boosted by a BILLION $ buyback. Q2 earnings...beat again and 20% drop pre-market then to recover a some a bit during the day.

CDW was the #1 at what we did...manage portfolio partners to ease the management and purchases of all technology and software easier for customers.
We literally are getting worse at that while failing at pushing services. There are already service providers out there that are better, cheaper, and quicker than what CDW offers.
We tried and failed buying an existing provider (Sirius) and that failure was on the integration from the CDW side.

Now we're in the next phase of getting leaner and even firing service professionals (crazy how we need to sell services but we let go of chunks of those engineers and specialists).

Who sells services? The AM's
Make selling services easier and also simplify an speed up the process.

Customers are repeatedly complaining about the speed and time to get things going from initial call to SOW to proposal to signatures.

What'd CDW do....double down on d-mb and move everything to SF which is slowing down everything anyways.

They are forcing buy in instead of listening to the actually sellers that deal manage customer accounts on the daily from a single cable buy to a large roll outs.

I pitched services to try and hit my service gate to get the 1% take from day one of Q1 and customers tell me they like the actual resource doing the work but they won't come back again because of the red tape and time to actually get things to the point where they have the resource doing the actual work they're needing.

@qr And how did that work out for Kodak, IBM, GE, etc. It's reinvent or die. The emphasis on services is key as everything else is on borrowed time.

@wn judging by the stock price, people are doing just that.

Those were the bad AM's that only cared about $ and not as much for the customer.
Tons of AM's like that that also would stab their fellow coworker in the back if it meant more $ for them.
Those who sit on orders and delay customers are those desperate for a few dollars more on their check. Another reason why things arw declining but also because the flawed commission structure is built in a way that people having bad months sand bag orders to have a larger following month. Who benefits...not the customer.

@qq I was a CDW partner for over 20 years working with SLED everyday up until last year. We did over $40m/yr with CDW. Anything you don’t know about SLED feel free to ask me.
Reps would sit on customer orders while waiting for bids to come back for GP enhancement only. They knew nothing about the products. And relied on the manufacturer and ISA’s to drive customer conversations and solutions while they went on mute and did little to learn about what was going on.

@td First of all, the roles actually cultivate business in services. Second, if you don't like it, or more likely can't follow the bigger concept that remaining a box company was not sustainable take your $ out of CDW and get lost.

@OP
"Ambassadors" lol

That's as stupid as installing a female attorney in charge of a tech sales company.

Come to think of it...most of the stupid decisions started when the lawyer came to power.

What happened to the prime ministers? They really just started to make sh*t up.

No wonder profits are declining and the stock dropped from 255. We have to buy our own stock back with the declining profits just to keep things from tanking more...no wonder they fired people and cut pay.

And people still glaze leadership like they know something.

@qr

Agree... over the years I've seen so many new made up roles that dont impact the bottom line.

Like when we had dual HR division then a seperate DEI division. WTF was that.

Then they take take the roles they make up and expand on them with Senior titles...then add a VP as well just mooching $ when they don't bring in any.

"Strategy and Brand Development" ...

Exactly an example of why CDW is failing.
Less focus on actual selling and gaining market share.

We're diluting profits by wasting it on fluff roles that didn't exist in 10+ years ago.

Strategy isn't getting an account to spend more or be a more profitable account.

The "brand" is tarnished. Regardless of all the regional events (basically wining and dining which can also be called bribing and buying business via sports events, dinners, etc.)....the brand isn't what it used to be.

Who cares who was fired from Education. I can say more fat needs to be trimmed in all segments and departments until all these fluff made up useless roles are terminated.

CDW is Sales!!!!

Most of the Education reps I worked with, were order takers and living off contract business driven by the manufacturers and customers.
