So many people in their mid career age are resigning. Add to that the number that have been PIP forced out and we won’t have anyone in their 40 year age left. I guess people have realized the promise of the pension is no longer real. I for one have seen too many people forced out after decades of high assessments to believe they’re isn’t a real effort to force people out before they can retire at 55.

Pension Lies
If you aren’t close to 55 good luck ever reaching retirement.
Eligible for retiree medical?
If you don't relocate, are you still eligible for retiree medical? They are coding it as Voluntary Resignation. Does it matter what HR codes it in Workday? I'm on my wife's plan currently, but we would like to use Chevron's medical when she retires.
Talked to HR but not sure if they have it right. They told me it doesn't matter what HR codes it in Workday- I would still be eligible for retiree medical when there is a life event. Is that right?
Comments on Bill Rogers Retirement
The brown nosers replying to Bill's retirement post on LinkedIn make me sick! Bill ran this place into the ground!
Lisa Drake is to retired by year end
Goodbye Lisa. Thank you for your 32 years with Ford.
Degradation of long term employment culture?
Title. I’d imagine folks here agree but want to get personal thoughts, observations or anecdotes. What is the future of this company for its employees? A more transactional model? Is this company that the older employees extol the same company that were living in now? Will the pension be around long term?
BM announcing retirement today
Sudhakar Ramakrishna will be new president and CEO.
Adios!
My number has come up. Funny thing is our team was completely swamped and overworked on a skeleton crew already. Director made sure her friend circle kept their roles which will fall in her face in two years when half the ones they kept retire and the other half are incompetent.
Best of luck everyone. I’m going to reset my nervous system from this place and try to forget these past few years happened.
Verizon Retiree COBRA Plan – Is It Worth the Cost?
Has anyone here who recently retired or forced into retirement from Verizon signed up for the Retiree COBRA Plan?
My severance package includes my current health coverage, but that coverage ends in September, so I’m trying to decide whether enrolling in the Retiree COBRA Plan is worth the cost.
I know I can call Verizon Benefits and get answers to my specific questions, but I’d really like to hear from real-world Verizon retirees who have actually gone through the process and can share their experience.
For those who enrolled:
What are you paying per month?
Which plan did you choose?
How has the coverage been compared with what you had while working?
Have you run into any unexpected costs, limitations, or issues?
Overall, do you feel the Retiree COBRA Plan is worth the cost?
I’d especially love to hear from Verizon retirees in Florida, but I’m interested in anyone’s experience. I’m trying to make an informed decision before my current coverage ends. Thanks!
My god this company su-ks
My retirement is non-existent from the share price decimation and this company just su-ks to work for now since everyone hates it.
2025 MP/GP/ELT comp
https://www.financialadvisoriq.com/c/5115064/722894/edward_jones_chief_penny_pennington_dips
According to this article, PP's income took a 3.5% cut and only took home $27.8mil in GP earnings. In fact, the top 6 partners (including FL who's now retired) took home over $130,000,000 in GP comp last year while our pathetic little LPs earned only a fraction of the GP shares.
2025 GP comp from this article:
PP $27.8m
AM $21.3m
KC $21.7m
DC $19m
KJ $21.3m
TOTAL $131.5
- FL retired at the end of 2025
Yet while they roll in the dough, we're faced with layoffs, offshoring, AI and the lowest morale I've ever seen in more than two decades. Shoot... each of these partners will make more money between now and 12/31 than most of us will ever see in our lives, much less be able to accumulate & grow for our own retirement.
It's been said before... you don't hate these trolls enough.

The retired rose-colored glasses
My uncle retired 8 years ago and still thinks Qualcomm is perfect. He calls me ungrateful for wanting to leave. I really wish I could get him back in for just a single day to do my job.
Almost 30 years in
Early retirement is close. Is it smart to jump now or should I wait? My wife says take the plunge since her insurance covers us, but I'm still not sure.
New era began - Veritas refinanced the debt
No concerns about WFRs anymore - peaceful retirement in ~3 yrs.
Experience
I see an uptick in Retirements, mostly 25 to 35 years experience each. Seems like many are being replaced by first or second year BTC staff performing the job remotely.
Dependence on less experienced, less competent persons working remotely, using AI, seems like a recipe for disaster.
What are examples of disasters, or potential disasters, that you see due to this trend?
Another foreman gone
Wow temple lost another foreman. One retired and one went to different department to escape the bull cr-p management madness.
RIFs are for the well-deserved !!
I have never met a bad person that got RIFFED. It was always the nice ones that were at or close to retirement . People look at it as a punishment but in reality it’s the company way of rewarding the good ones . The truth is everyone I know wants that package but too bad the company will determine who is deserving of it .
Adios
Just stopped by to thank the current employees for keeping the ship afloat long enough for my pension to clear and hit my IRA. I wish you all the best. Severance is a great thing after hitting the MR75. Good luck to you all!
Health insurers are dropping Medicare Advantage plans — and nearly 3 million older Americans will be affected
https://finance.yahoo.com/healthcare/articles/health-insurers-dropping-medicare-advantage-100000446.html
Thousands of seniors are receiving notification that their Medicare Advantage plan won't be available next year, and there's nothing they can do about it except find another option.
One in 10 Medicare Advantage policyholders face forced disenrollment this year, according to an analysis by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. That's as many as 2.9 million Americans.

Early retirement
A strong early retirement offer from Verizon can be the foundation for a secure future—almost like building your own retirement “empire.” The key is preparation: know your pension value, health benefits, and savings runway before the offer lands. A good offer combined with early planning can turn a stressful decision into a life-changing opportunity.
GM Auto Plant Adjusts Workforce for Cadillac Production
General Motors is laying off 350 workers at two Lansing facilities. These layoffs are a result of a significant investment to retool the plants for future Cadillac sedan production. The affected employees will be impacted starting in mid-January. GM anticipates recalling workers after the plant modifications are complete. Some employees may find opportunities at other company locations or receive supplemental pay.

Impact on CDW Education.
Can anybody give me a # on how many CDW Education employees were paid off in July? I work here and over the last week two that zip reached out to are no longer here (Ed. Ambassadors) and another is posting in LinkedIn that he has now retired. Who is left?
Standards of Care
Once what was a fulfilling career to support clients and their G2 G3 on their journey to and thru retirement has now turned into an exercise of making sure to click the required buttons to get credit for making sure you get the '"income". What is missing is that the clients are not getting the "outcome" that is in their best interest. Not to mention that G2 and G3 has become a non event when we push products because we have to hit numbers. Way too many "coaches" that have never been in a client facing role and never will be. Combined with Branch managers that manage to maximize their pay/shares, it's just a matter of time before AI takes over once was a highly skilled job and creates more value for the Johnson family.
Fleming to “Retire”
For those of you who were asking for her departure your wish has come true. D. Fleming is “retiring” another EVP bites the dust. So when will Tom bite the dust?
District Faces Staff Reductions Due to Enrollment Decline
Mesa Public Schools is preparing to implement staff layoffs for the upcoming 2026-27 school year. This decision stems from a projected decrease in student enrollment, which directly impacts the district's funding. The district is hoping that attrition through retirements and resignations will mitigate the number of positions ultimately eliminated. While the exact number of affected employees has not been disclosed, the district is exploring various strategies to manage the reduction in force. These strategies include offering incentives for early retirement and considering involuntary transfers for some staff members.

Tax advantage of leaving before 55
After running the math, there is a major tax advantage to leave earlier than 55 and move a lot of money into ROTH’s. You can’t do that while earning a big paycheck and you end up saving more $ than you walk away from. And you get to retire early with lots of life left!
Gave two weeks notice
Didn't lift a finger after. No phone calls, no emails, no messages went underground right after giving notice. Best thing I ever did. Nobody missed me and I didn't miss them. Catching about 2-3 hours of rays and vitamin D a day. Kicking back and relaxing. Save your money folks. I rolled that pension out of the system into an IRA. That along with my 401K I 3-4X it in the past few years. Too many people live beyond their means at ATT. Typical corporate suburban oatmeal brains.
Exec and Retirement
Are execs truly happy or miserable? Ranking must be brutal.
Is the risk higher for execs not to make it to retirement eligible (ie 55)?
Pension plan to be frozen by end of 2027?
Is there any truth to this rumor?
Sabbatical
How does Schwab handle an employee who wishes to take their sabbatical, then retire? Does the employee have to return to work after the sabbatical for a certain period of time? Or can the employee simply retire after getting paid for the sabbatical? Thanks!
Salem-Keizer Schools Cut Staff Amid Budget Shortfall
Salem-Keizer School District will reduce its staffing by 120 positions for the upcoming school year, including 62 teachers and 58 classified employees. This reduction is part of a $23 million budget cut aimed at addressing financial challenges. Retirements played a significant role in mitigating widespread layoffs, with 80 employees accepting a bonus for early notice. While no student programs face complete elimination, some elective course offerings will be reduced. The district faces ongoing financial pressures due to rising costs and declining enrollment.

Minnesota State Mankato Cuts Staff Amid Deficit
Minnesota State University, Mankato will eliminate approximately 60 faculty and staff positions to address a $22 million budget deficit. The majority of these reductions will come from vacant positions and early retirement packages, with 17 layoffs planned. This decision follows previous tuition increases and program cuts, and union leaders have expressed opposition. University president Edward Inch acknowledged the impact on programs and services but stressed the necessity of addressing the financial imbalance. The university faces challenges with rising operational costs and stagnant tuition revenue and state support.

The unfairness of it all
I gave nine years to Oracle, late nights, extra projects, constant praise. I honestly believed I'd be here until retirement. Then they cut me last month without warning. I know I'll find something else, but I'm terrified it won't be as good. The unfairness of it all is eating me alive.
Same old song and dance
Was Kai off on retirement side 2 years ago- jobs going to India unless client faci- enjoyed my 12 plus years there- clearly a movement to drop long term ees- have heard of several since me- generous packages- but stifle feedback due to legal documents you must sign to get severance. Well Att did it. They turned my phone off. Worked for them for 34 years. When I retired in 1993 I think it was. They said free Ld and phone for the rest of your life. Well guess what I’m still alive. They lied
Layoffs underway
GTS is laying off entire teams and other areas are also eliminating people quietly. I only heard through resources that applied for an open position but I have also learned of additional "retirements" on LinkedIn.
